Wreck - front corner / bumper damage

Dumbass high school kid in a Nissan Sentra decided to see how strong the back corner of his Nissan Sentra was compared to the front end of my 4Runner by taking a left turn in my path at an intersection. Got a bent up front wing & bumper, back of the headlight is cracked and the indicator is hosed.

Doesn't look like any structural damage under the front end and the wing looks like it could probably be hammered out. Not sure if the Insurance co will allow me to do my own repairs tho if I just give em a list of parts?

Looks to me like that excuse is finally here to buy an aftermarket front bumper!

your fender is buckled too but the hood looks good. if you go get some estimates and send them to his insurance company they should just cut you a check. they will probably try to hose you because it is an older truck though. i would include the price of the aftermarket bumper you want in the estimates.

I think your ok, but if he's got the same insurance company their may not let you fix it your self.

Get a good push bumper like ranch hand.

i have always fixed my own wrecks. the insurance companies piss and moan about it but you have the right to decide who fixes your vehicle, even if you do it yourself. they have the right to reinspect the vehicle to make sure the vehicle has been repaired. they may try and low ball you if you do it yourself though.

Not sure if he had comp coverage on his 99 Nissan Sentra, as it was his dads car potentially not. I'm thinking of calling the dad today and saying $650 in parts covers my damage, so if they wanna deal outside of the insurance that's fine.

650 should be good, but you will have to bend some sheet metal, and probably get a new cornering light ($50.00). The dad will probably be happier to go outside of insurance because, presumeably, they wont receive a spike in insurance

Called up the dad and he got all pissy, saying that his kid and his so called 'Witness' friends think it was my fault for speeding up to get through the light. So f. em - They can suffer the higher insurance. If I knew they were gonna be dumb like that I should have just asked the officer to do an investigation at the scene. I thought I'd be nice tho and not let the kid suffer a ticket.

Oh well - The next person who pulls a dumb move like that is unfortunate, as I'll request the investigation next time.

I did call the Police, the officer just didn't do a full investigation. So I have a police report - just no tickets were issued.

People will always try and skinny out instead of just bowing down and taking it (dont take this the wrong way). Its just people, and if i was driving a sentra id do that too.

that is no where near totaled by yota owning standards.

For insurance companies, totaled means that the damage to the car is over 50% of the car's estimated value.

Even this is not totaled
