Well I finally bit the bullet and got a set of custom bumpers made up . It's been hard finding someone to actually make them in the Greater Toronto Area. The few ppl I did manage to find wanted an Arm and a leg. I finally stumbled upon a great fabricator mainly making jeep bumpers and had him do his first set for a 4runner on my truck.

The rear was modelled after the BruceTS Rear bumper. As much as I'd have loved to have one of his actually bumpers It wasn't a possibility. The front was shape more after a Shrockworks bumper. I'd still love to get one of there bumpers one day, but wait times and with shipping and such it was WAY too much for me. I just got the truck back woth them today and they turned out great.

Turn around is normally 3-4days for these bumpers but Since is was his first set for the 4runner and he ran into a few mechanical isues with the welder and bender it took about 2 weeks. Still not bad in my Opinion. These would be a great option for anyone in the GTA that's looking for a set of custom bumpers but can't afford the shipping taxes and Duties etc etc etc of having one shipped from the USA. He's also willing to work with anyone on different design idea's to make what you want. Real great guy to deal with and top quality work.

Those bumpers are sweet. I like how they look like the stock bumpers. completely stock. I know what my bumpers will look like on my 98' 4runner. I just got to make. Cool pics. Could you give out what type of materials you had them made in and how much you paid for them, if you comfortable with saying that. Nice looking anyways.

 

Nice! But you may want to see if you can get a little bit bigger gap between the bumpers and the sheet metal. The body flexes differently than the frame which the bumpers are attached to, and you could end up with some crumpled sheet metal. Other than that your lookin good!

 

Great bumpers!! Love the rear... front looks sweet too, wonder if they could make a place for some integrated fogs.

That rear bumper is EXACTLY what I want on my 4runner.

What is the price on that?

 

I have been looking for a decent bumper and being a canuck the options are slim.
So a few q's regarding the front:
-what is the cost?
-could integrated fogs be possible?
-could the bumper be wider, since it is more narrow than your fenders which slightly defeats some protection.
-what is the weight?

Looks good though.

 

I was thinking about the gap between the bumpers myself. There is a little less than a 1/2in gap now but I'll see if I can make it a little bigger. As for the costs, I spoke with him and he said he'd only charge 550/bumper front or rear or 1000 for the pair. A great deal in my opinion considering it's pretty much what I paid. Integrated fog's probably wouldn't be too hard. I'm sure he could do it but you'd have to find an alternative signal to use. Something more like how shrockworks used round ones with the fogs. I just never asked for them and asked him to reuse the original signals. I didn't really ask about weight of them either. It really didn't matter too much to me. A little wider would have been nice but It never really crossed my mind. I thought of it after I saw the finished product..lol. Either way I'm still very happy with the final product. They're made out of 3/16in steel plate so they should be plenty strong. I tested them out a bit pulling my buddy out of some mud off-roading this afternoon .

 

Bumpers turned out great. At first glance, I thought the first photo you attached was the "before" shot . Front turned out real nice. Closely resembles a TJM T-17.

BTW, I love the rear bumper even more. (Partly b/c you don't see that any custom rear bumpers that could pass for a production bumper). Your guy did a good job following the BruceTS bumper lines. Again nice work.

And $1000 for the pair...what a deal! Now you're making me jealous you're in Canada.

Mind taking any pics underneath of how the rear bumper is mounted? Just curious to see what route he took.

 

Sure, I'll get a few pics of the mounting but it'll probably be tmw. It's pouring like nobody's business here...lol.

Great looking bumpers... I especially like the rear... with the use of the factory plastic it looks completely stock.... front is nice but as others have noted I'd have gone for a built in fog/driving light... do you know Shane at Toyworks in Orangeville? about the best yota wrench/fab man around...

 

Those bumpers are awesome man!! First glance at the first picture of your 4Runner head on, I could have sworn it was an FJ80. The lines are sooo similar. And your orange side marker lights look extra orange for some reason?? Maybe thats just the light.

 

What's the chances of them being made for a 2nd gen? will he ship to the US or ship unbuilt and let me weld them up?

The price is in canadian dollars. So with the US conversion it works out to about 800USD for both.

olharleyman Making the bumpers for a second gen wouldn't be an issue but He'd need someone local to fab-up a set on first. My Bumpers were the first set he made for a 3rd gen. They were actually the first set of bumpers he made for anything other than a jeep!

aviator, I've never heard of toyworks.Might just have to check them out sometime.

 

I wish you would not have said that...makes me sick to my stomach knowing that a PAIR of custom bumpers would only cost me $800 . If I didn't live in the South, I'd so be paying him a visit...
