oil pressure 22re

i gust put a remanufactured 22re in my 4runner. i primed my new oil pump with grease and left the oil filter off. the plan was to see if oil would come out the oil filter hole showing that it had pressure but nothing is coming out. anyone have any ideas? thanks

what are you doing just cranking the motor over with the wires disconnected or are you turning it over with a strongarm on the crank?

Sometimes it'll take a little while for the oil to reach spots if you turned it over twice and didn't get oil out the hole don't be surprised.

What grease did you prime it with?

the preferred 'grease' is either engine break in lube or vaseline since the engine oil can wash it away fairly easily. Even motor oil 'could' be used if the plugs are pulled and there's no chance the engine will start running.

anyhow, put the filter on, pull the plugs and crank the engine for 20-30 seconds (you'll get a fair amount of oil out the filter fitting so it'd be better to have it in place to catch it). then pull the filter and make sure the filter is wet. if it's not, it's possible that the grease has blocked the passage from the pump and the pump's not spinning fast enough to build enough pressure to clear it (hence using assembly lube or vaseline).

im using the starter to turn it over and i dont have any of the ignition hooked up and the plugs are out. one of the guys at my local part store told me to use valvoline multi-purpose grease and i went with that.

First off all go back to the parts store and slap the dope that told you to use grease. Take the pump back off, clean it out and use either oil or break in lube and try again with the filter on. as stated before 20-30 seconds. If you have an oil press. guage watch the guage. if not you may want to hook one up temporarily.
