if it stinks then its a blown headgasket. if its a blown headgasket, you will see a big smokecloud if its that bad. once i drove into deeper water and i got some water into intake then the truck smoked for a few mins.

Headgasket? probable. We stuck a garden hose up my friends tailpipe for April Fools day on Wednesday and he blew white smoke for a while as well. You think you've been subject to a practical joke?

Headgaskets are kinda funny. I had one in a 93 Acura Legend (notorius for them). It would pump air into the cooling system causing it to overheat but no coolant mixed with the oil and it wouldn't burn coolant either.
Anyway, my point is, that headgaskets can blow white smoke, push air into the cooling system and, or mix coolant with oil. If you exhaust smells sweet (ethylene glycol smells like a light burnt candy out the exhaust because alcohol changes to a hydrocarbon simular to sugar components) and it looks like smoke from a jet engine out the back after warming up (if you are in cold weather) especially if you idle for a min then step on the gas. This will give the antifreeze time to get into the cylinder. I did a leak down test to find out. You can also do a compression test. Some people debate the validity of the leak down test but it worked for me. But the compression test would tell you also.

4cyl or v6?

A quick check for headgasket is to pull the plugs..smell like coolant, have white clean look, steam cleaned?

Another thing to check is the pcv valve..is it stuck open or closed? usually would produce blue/gray smoke...but good to check as well.

Do you have a powersteering pump idle-up valve? could have a leak causing steering fluid to leak into manifold.

99% of Toyota's when the headgasket goes, the coolant does not mix with the oil,The design of toyota's head gaskets places the passages far apart from each other, unlike the domestics...FYI
