Antenna Cable splicing

I need to replace my am/fm antenna in my 4runner. I dont want to go behind the dash and remove the radio and route new cable. I just bought a univeral antenna at the audio store and I just want to cut the existing cable behind the fender and join the cable with the universal.
Anyone know how to join the antenna cable or any methods to join the cable together
