After driving around with no horn for nearly a year and missing out on honking at ppl, I've decided its time for a new one.
I recently checked the horn directly to the battery and I got nothing. I didnt see a horn fuse either, so I assumed its tied into something else. this would be for my 1991 pickup.

Anyone have any luck plugging in or re-wiring a new one?

Ah, actually I think the horn fuse is on the fuse block in the cab...

There should be just some terminal plugs to unplug and then just bolt in a new one, plug it in and honk away!

 

there is a plug that is part of the passenger blinker / light wiring "unit."
its the extra plug that doesn't plug into a light or blinker.

 

I had wondered whether or not its was under the hood..thanks for the help I couldn't find one in the cab. I'll have a look, and post my findings.

my horn comes and goes as it pleases.. my finger is the substitute when its on hiatus

 

Wire one to a switch in the cab.

I have Dixie horns, and air horns on my 79 and Ford horns on my 4Runner

 

Check for voltage at the horn connector with someone pushing the button, if you got voltage, time to purchase a new horn.

when i rebuilt the front of my car, i wondered what that plug was for until i was like... OHH, the horn went there

Then again, its pretty easy to try random plugs when you have all your parts taken off

 

Well, I guess I learn a new thing everyday, but sometimes I still realize that I'm a part time dumbass. The fuse for the horn is the hazard-horn fuse in the box under the hood. From that, I learned that reading is important.( I spent like a total of 1.5hrs looking, lol)
Yes I have voltage, and yes I do need a new horn. lucky me!

I don't know if this will help but I recently got my truck and needed to get a inpection sticker and had no horn. I did some searching here and testing on the horn.

come to find out the contact plate behind the steering wheel had bent itself flat no longer making contact. popped my steering wheel off, almost busted myself in the face with it, undid the plastic covers over the ignition and bent that brass ring back out so it would make contact.

horn is as good as new.

but I'm dying to rig up some bad @$$ air horns or an arrooooooga horn or the general lee song or something. haha

I hate the sound of my "mickey mouse" sounding horn. I'm ordering up one of those Hella Supertones. I think there rated like 130db or something like that. My buddy has one on his WRX and that thing is loud as hell!

 

I agree. There is nothing worse than having a lifted/locked/armored/rock rashed/off-road rig with a horn that goes *peeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep*.
