1987 axle $150
There is a person selling a 1987 rear axle from a 4runner for 150 dollars. All i want to use is the 3rd member but i have to buy it as a whole. Is 150 dollars too much for it?
I believe that is has the stock 4.10 gearing in it. http://akroncanton.craigslist.org/pts/1080934308.html

It kind of depends. That is too much just for a diff. On the other hand, you will have the other parts left over which you may or may not be able to sell to offset the cost. You could also keep the housing and inner axles for spares, but if your storage space is limited, that can just be a PITA. Those are also parts that rarely fail so it's not likely that you will ever need them.
On the other other hand if your current diff has problems and you need to get your rig running asap, then it probably isn't an awful deal either. If you have the option to wait, you should be able get a diff for $50-$100. (at least around where I live)
