CEL revealed TPS problem. So exactly how hard is this gonna be to fix???

So about a year ago my CEL went on and off a few times while driving but before i could get it checked out it stopped coming on till about a month ago. Well when it came on about 4 weeks ago i had a local mechanic pull the code. I forget what exactly the code was, but i remember he said it was the Throttle position sensor. I have not had it changed yet, and as i have kept driving it i noticed that the CEL has stayed off for the most part, but randomly here and there when i start my truck up the CEL will be on from initial start-up, and other times it will be off and stay off for days. AS of the last few days it will be off when i start up but come on during driving. So why the change in the CEL frequency? Also my truck turned off on me the other day while i was at a stop light, not sure if this has anything to do with it. Any knowledgeable people that can shed some light are welcomed to take a crack at this....I have a 2001 4x4 ext cab taco with 87,000 miles on a auto tranny. Thanks!
