That's twice with the T/A KOs. Know what this means? I'm not airing down anymore! It seams the only time I have problems is when I air down. :wtf:

Sorry about the tuff luck on the trail. With your tire problem and Adrian's problem, i wonder it "tank tracks" would work better. There has go to be a better way.

Was it a pinch or a tear or just horrible dumb luck?

When my tire pooped, I was pretty impressed with the sidewall thickness as I was sticking my finger through it.

Not carrying a full size spare, or what? Either way, it is a bummer, or time for some wheeling tires?

 

What were you doing when it popped, do you know? Were you dragging the sidewalls on some kind of rock?

I have the a/t KO's and the look of that scares me.

 

Your Goodyears are deffinately thicker than the BFGs. I just went out and stuck a large screwdriver through the tear and the wall doesn't look nearly as thick as yours.


I think this was officially my last wheeling trip this year. I just went to Sears and ordered a new set of tires, but they won't be here until next Wednesday. I'm totally bummed because I wanted to tag along with Darren again next weekend to see the fall colors. Got to see a little this weekend. They should be in their full glory next weekend.

The tear itself was really just bad luck. It was almost exactly as you described your tear, Adrian. We had just cleared the last rock garden on Iron Chest coming back (this is the only rock garden, now. The others have been leveled), I didn't bang, rub or dent anything. We were rolling through this one really easy section and then "WHOOSH...whoosh...whoosh " The gash was large enough that the air had completely escaped in 3 rotations of the tire and the bead popped off.

Wheeling tires? Probably not. I got a killer (and I mean killer) deal on a set of 285/75/16 Bridgestone Dueller Revo A/Ts. The wheeling tires will go on the new rig. So, I'm upgrading to bigger tires (FINALLY) but probably won't use them on anything more than a moderate trail :pat:

My a$$ feels funny, too! My wallet is $450 lighter!!!

No, I didn't have a full size spare. But, the size difference was minute. The BFGs were 265/75/16s, the spare was 265/70/16.
Oh, yeah! One more thing...I busted a stud pulling the flat tire off.

My thanks go to Darren who got down and dirty with me and helped me change my tire. We had it done in about 7 minutes, I think. A Hi-Lift would have probably kept us a little cleaner. That'll be my first purchase after the first of the year.

That sucks about your blowout. At least you got come good wheeling in with Darren before it happened, and it's good you were with someone who could help you out. As for the new AT's, I think they'll actually do better for running most of the trails we run out here, and ride better on the road too.

As for the lighter wallet, we're lighter for the same amount over here since we got Leslie new tires for her car today too.

 

Damn, sorry to hear that man. How much did you air them down? They're only 3-ply. I'd like to get the TrXus MTs that data has. 8-ply and plenty grippy in all conditions from what I hear.

 

What pressure were you running when it pooped?

My tires were doing sick things on the old Iron Chest, but never had any poopage.

 

I aired them down at the trail head to 18 p.s.i.

The last time this happened was on Slaughterhouse. I aired them down and the bead popped.

The trail rig will probably have Intercos of some sort on them.

 

I read somewhere that AT's are "Street" tires that work in the dirt, while MT's are "actual" off road tires. Not sure of the validity of that statement... I for one never had a problem with my AT's, but I I have run my ProComp MT's at 0psi on the WATTORA snow run early this year and didn't pop a bead. We had someone on the run with Swampers that had the 6 ply sidewall and he just kept digging himself into the snow. It wasn't until he aired down to 0 that he was able to stay on top. After my experiences with my MT's I will never go back to AT's on a vehicle that actually goes in the dirt.

Sorry to be off topic a bit with my first post but is this the same Slaughterhouse that's up near Bailey,CO?

If so that's where I use to take my girlfriend's '94 pickup and tear it up now I'm gonna try the 4Runner up there. That was about 7 years ago and the last time I did any 4 wheeling so I'll need some practice.

So,you live up there?

 

I live near there. Bailey is about 35 minutes from where I live. It's a fun trail if all you want to do is get out and wheel.

 

I live down in the Ken Caryl area so it's only about a 40 minute drive up there for myself.
