Planning trip to Yellowstone...

I bet there are some of you who really know Yellowstone like the back of your hands. I have been looking online but I have no idea other than Old Faithful. I am trying to see whether the North Entrance at the town of Gardiner or west yellowstone would be a better plan. also for places to stay, the hotels inside the park seem to be really expensive and most are booked from my brief look online! pretty heavy since the trip isn't until August, guess it books out 6 months in advance.
I hear the town of cody is pretty cool too...if anyone has thoughts on a great course through the park, that'd be fantastic. thanks a lot. Also if you've stayed at any fantastic places I'd love to hear about them, especially in the town of West Yellowstone

sorry, I thought this was a thread, it seems to be an event planner, do I need to change this? Sorry about that.

All threads for this area get the event planner inputted into them.

You can plan the trip here though, and then use the picture trail/trip report section to share pics of the trip.

i would personally recommend going through the north gate, there isnt much in either gardiner or west yellowstone, but i like the north end of the park. and yes cody is a decent town, not a whole lot to do there, they have a rodeo every night in the summer and all three towns have whitewater rafting. they all have hotels and cody is probably the cheapest. there is good camping outside the town of west yellowstone, and good camping outside cody as well. both campgrounds are right next to a lake, and you can have fires at both. there is a campground in cody as well that isnt to bad if you staying in a tent. get the phone numbers for all the hotels in the park and call and ask for a room, the internet is not always accurate. old faithful is crowded and kind of boring, i mean go see it if you have never been to yellowstone, but there are much better geysers in different places than the lower geyser basin at the OF area. the rooms may be expensive but they are all really nice, however some dont have private bathrooms, they are communal, sorta. pay the money and get a room at lake hotel, with a lake view, you should have your own bathroom that way and its a great view. there is a boat ride you can go on at fishing bridge, its about 45 minutes with a guy tellin you fun facts about the lake. there is horse back riding in cody and i think gardiner. ask someone at the oldfaithful area for directions to mystic falls, its a short 6 mile walk, with a very cold 80 ft water fall at the end, and some hot springs if you want to walk a little further. there is a swimming hole in the firehole river, and in august itll be really nice, kind of crowded as well. give me more information on what you want to do and then i might be able to help you a little more.
