bobbing a First Gen 4Runner-nice write up
I haven't own a first gen 4Runner for almost 20 years but it is something I am thinking about buying down the road.
I have been following this 85 Build on Pirate and thought his write up of bobbing the bed and top was one of the better ones I had saw and thought to pass it one:

Wood to keep it together
Couple layers of fiberglass on the inside
Flip it and grind a low spot in the seam. 1" wide strip on the bottom with another wider strip on top.
Used the extra resin and shoved the wood back in there.
Sand and some body filler, sand again
Done, fits like factory

bob is done for now. I just need to paint the top in the morning and get the windows cut down and installed. The whole truck will be getting painted once I get the fenders done and bumpers figured out.
I fixed all the dents in the corners from the last time out while I was at it.

Cut window frame with cutoff wheel, taking 8" out
Wash the glass where you won't be able to access it later, I didn't think about it
Weld it back together
I just cut the end off the trim instead of sectioning it out.
One tab on the frame and two on the trim need to be moved to fit the pockets in the top.
I used some 3M windo-weld to stick them back into the top.

to each his own. it is about doing it to see if you can...it is a toyota thing
also gives you better take off and departure angles

yes hacking up a clean 1st gen and not taking time and doingis just wrong. Now, on the other hand if your going to do a really clean professional job on it then HELLS YA. i think they look awesome bobbed, and i can say from expirence its not as easy as it looks to make a BOB job turn out as nice as thoes... lots and lots of paitience and precision. as said before "to each his own", it all comes down to the whole "restoriation" or "modification" thing.

yea, when i do a bob im doing it in the summer, that way i can take my time on fabricating the top and possibly think of some more mods. Im just tired of my rear end hitting the ground when im wheelin lol

thanks for posting this up OCDROPZONE. I dont get over to pirate much, mainly cause i get sick of the negativity. iv seen the charcoal frontier runner before on another site, that thing is sweet.. its kinda cool that they kept it IFS.. makes it even more different.
