im considering some spacers about an inch or two on front and rear, i dont need crazy suspension mod or anything just a better approach angle and stance. I thought this would be a very good alternative that's completly reversable. would you guys recommend this? also this would definitely void warranty right?

and David how are the Bilsteins compared to other brands? would you have done things differently?

 

Sounds like you're getting tired of being "height challenged?"

I have OME shocks in the rear, not Bilsteins, so I can't give an opion on them. I know alot of people think they rule. In general, I think spacer lifts are primarily for show. Will they give you added height? Yes. Will they allow you to run bigger tires? Yes. Will they improve articulation/flex while off roading? No. Do you run the risk of trashing your ball joints? Yes. Are they more cost effective than a "real" suspension lift? Definitely.

As far as the warranty for your vehicle, I don't know, and its something you'd have to ask in the general forum. Probably only voids the warranty if you have problems related specifically to the suspension. I like my current setup, and wouldn't change anything.

Changing the rear shocks and coils aren't too bad. The front is kind of sketchy to do by yourself, since you have to use a coil compressor to compress the spring to get the shock out. The advantage of going with SAWS is that you just replace the whole unit, so its a bit easier. From what I know of what you want to do with your 4runner, I wouldn't go with the SAWS. Most people go that route so that when they get an aftermarket bumper for the front, they can adjust with the extra weight. Its more of an off-roading mod, and they run 675.00 for the pair. Since you a pretty new vehicle, I'd probably just go with spacers all the way around, maybe the cornbred aluminum spacers, and get rid of those running boards once and for all! Actually Ray, if you just wanted to "look" taller, dumping the 'boards would do wonders. If you decide to install a lift, we could make it the first official 4ROC wrenchathon, you'd just have to supply the pizza...

The Daystar kit would do the trick, but I'd also look at the spacer kit that Revtek makes as well. Check out Steve Schaefer's web site for comparison of the different spacer lifts. My steering is a bit loose as well. They have kits to replace the bushings with better polyurethane ones, I think its a pain to replace, but I've got to do it. If the new bushings don't work, then you're looking at a new steering rack, which go for about 700 from Toyota. I'm trying to ignore it in the meantime.

If I were you I would go Confed Spacers or Revtek.
I had the Cornfed spacers for the front of my 4Runner along with an OME suspension setup. It worked out great.

Cornfed is about 70-80 bucks cheaper depending on what size spacers your looking for.

But seriously, I think a mod day is deffinatly needed! I am acually having trouble with my cb...I haven't even tuned it yet, and haven't even used it...but I am no longer getting any reception, I checked the ground wires and everything...no dice...beats me

 

yea guys thanks for your concerns and helpful hints. I dunno if im just whining but after couple of times of wheeling, my steering is loose, my truck shakes and steering shimmies on freeways, rotors are warped, engine vibrates when I stop in Drive, truck wobbles noticeably more when turning and also durning normal driving , Im slowly noticing these things. Is this a common issue with all of you? im beginning to think 4runners arent tough as i thought they were. My truck is at 39.5k mi. maybe i'm due for a tuneup? any suggestions? and as far as my riding heights I think I can be happy at where i am at right now. I dont wanna rush into things and regret later. Just want my truck to run as good as before and that's my priority for now. I finally took running boards off(because it actually looks better in my eyes now ) . had to cut the mud flaps when i was putting it on because i almost ripped them right off just by turning hard. my factory dunlops looked like glazed doughnuts compared to these BFGs I think my new tires will hold me off for a while as far as mods go. i'm gonna try to get an alignment and get new Bils.shocks and also a tune up, any mechanically inclined people give me some advice on regular maintenance and suggestions on replacement parts? i have not done any scheduled maintenance except oil changes since i bought my truck at 12k last year. and oh yea, i think my Amsoil needs some seriously deep bath. Also he Pinstriping on my truck is noticeable now....I'm also looking into Griot's polish to get the little scratches out. I care about looks and little things too much, I'll always be a newbie...I just know it
