Broke another freakin' Birfield...

I told you guys I was waiting on that other Newfield to give up the ghost and break... well, it did. I popped it first thing this afternoon out at Kemp road attempting the same hill climb I did not even a few days before. Hmph. Would've made it too, but the damn thing broke going up a dirt hill climb... how's that for indestructible? Sorry CV Unlimited... stick to CV's, cause your Newfield Birfields SUCK. Oh, and so after the birf officially broke, I was attempting a hill climb, slid into a rut b/c of my "3 " wheel drive, and this was a DEEP rut. SO deep that I broke my left fender flare, dented the panel right before my left tail light, and punched a hole through my left tail light. THEN, Jeremy and the other guy wheeling w/ me convinced me to try a water crossing.. no problem. Except for the lack of true FOUR wheel drive. W/ an unlocked front and one dead birf, try TWO wheel drive. The water came up so high on my cruiser that you couldn't see the rear wheel spinning. I got a little bit of water in the doors, but nothing a shop vac can't take care of. I had to winch off of Jeremy's trailer hitch, although my cruiser valiantly made it to within a few feet of getting out, before a pretty good size rut made me stop. Thank god for the winch. Anyways, I'm out... Trail Carnage? I've got picks of the winching and stuck, but none of the carnage yet.. I'll post them later. Here's the score for this afternoon:

One left taillight
One left quarter panel dent
One right Newfield Birfield
One right Birfield dust cap

I'll be back... the OEM Birf goes in at latest on Tuesday... gotta have the 4wd functioning for the hurricane. Hope everyone's prepared!

That sucks that you keep breakin them.

I think your rig is telling you it wants to be made beefier! I have no idea how you could do that but it wants it.

Stump-

I just bought a house four months ago... I really don't have the money... at least not to spend on that kind of stuff right now. Besides... I've seen that conversion BROKEN by a smaller Toy pickup w/ 38's and no supercharger...

UPDATE:

Not only did I break the birf into millions of pieces, but also the cage, and the inner shaft... geez. The birf trashed in inner brass bushing, the ABS sensor, and the inner oil seal. GOD! More stuff to spend $$$ on... I wonder if CV Unlimited will pay for all that crap too.... they're refunding my $$ on their Newfields... Unbreakable my ass... Longfields here I come... gonna take some spares and send em' to that Smurfield guy and see what he can come up w/.

Birfields are at their most vulnerable when they're turned... that's when I broke this one... again. My thoughts are that I weakened it out in Colorado, then weakened it more @ Uhwarrie... MUD really does break things... so does loose dirt... it's all the bouncing around. Uhwarrie was pretty much straight up all the trails, w/o much lock-to-lock turning. I'll be up and running again soon... I'd rather keep it all Toyota!

I hear that Jason, no need for cross breading. Hey I poseted on another thread asking if we could see a few pics of your other cars, and an engine shot of that Supra with it's T88. Sorry I got really curious after my friend started talking about T88s and how freak'n HUGE they are.

Ummm.. yeah... I was using it when I needed it... loose dirt hill climb, really steep, really narrow... I've been waiting for that other birfield to break anyway... it was a Newfield, and we've been having problems w/them.

But thanks, I knew that already....
