I am about to order a pacesetter header and exhaust system(because its cheap, im broke, and they have a lifetime warranty), and all i need now is a cat. Im ordering from summit racing. Anyone reccomend a specific freeflow cat? I heard some good stuff about catco, but i know theres other brands to look into. Im hoping to get one around the $100 range or preferably less.

 

I'd reconsider on the Pacesetter headers if I were you. I don't think they have gotten too many positive recommendations here on the board. You may try doing a search on here to see what you come up with.

 

I have done a few searchs. and discussed some on this board, and pacesetter makes the only header for my application thats under $225. What are some bad reports on em anyway?

The problem here is that i LITERALLY CANT afford a header thats over $200. If you could find an okay brand thats at most $180 or so, then Im excited to find out. Ive had nothing but bad luck with used parts and i really dont wanna go in that ball park either.

 

Well you need to tell us what you drive first, and then we can probably start giving you some recommendations.

 

oops. sorry. 89 4wd pickup, std. cab, manual tran. 22R-E. Pacesetter has lifetime warranty and I havent heard of a situation on this board or from anyone i know that says they're just total crap.

Im curious to know what the best cat on the market is thats around $50 to $75. My cat is clogged up I think and I do not want to do as my buddy did. He straight piped his 94 and it smells like that wonderful smell of exhaust.

 

I had a Pacesetter on my '85 Supra for 5 years, and loved it. I had to mod the way the O2 sensor hooked up, but that shouldn't be applicable on an '89 w/22RE.

I have a Doug Thorley header (4 into 2 into 1) that I'd like to sell for around $100 plus shipping, if anyone's interested. It came off a carbureted '87 22R, but has an O2 sensor port on it for the 22RE.

 

I have had my pacesetter header on my 93 22re for about five months now and have had no problems whatsoever. A week after having it istalled i took it back and had it tightened down again just to make sure it didnt leak and it has not devloped one yet. Actually been complemented on the way it sounds versus how it sounded stock. There was a slight power increase noticed although not much. The only thing I didnt like was the smell of the black paint burning off the first two or three days.

 

A regular catco 2 element converter will flow about as well as the more expensive high flow 3 element converters. Expect to pay about $100.

I don't know if this helps you or not but I had a Pacesetter header on my '93 civic for about 4 years before I sold the car. I only paid $200 (Can) for it. The workmanship on it was not the best (I had to deburr some excess weld inside the O2 sensor port on it) but I had no problems with it otherwise. It fit OK and I never had a problem with it leaking. It was well worth the money.
