Got a killer deal on some Landcruiser rims this weekend, I guess it had its price though. Blake (neliconcept) and I got into a wreck in Atlanta in his truck, luckily its ok.....can't say the same for the 08 Camry. Anyways the wheels had a good bit of scrapes which motivated me to do this quicker. By the end of this the rims will somewhat match the rocker panels, bumper and roof rack. The rears are getting their loving as we speak, primed and nearly finished with the first wheel's coats.










I have centers off of a lexus lx that were painted to match, but unfortunately I couldn't devise a way to get the paint to stick to them, they'll be going semi gloss black next week or something.

I should have this done by tomorrow pending any troubles. So far this Duplicolor stuff is rocking, had the graphite on my rockers and bumper for nearly 3 months and no sign of chipping or wear. I hope to say the same for the wheels

Got both of the rears done, they're upright and getting wind and light for the rest of the night. While I was at it I prepped and coated my drums the same color, the rust has been a thorn in my side for too long

 

Is that the final color? I like it.

 

Yeah that will be the final color, lighting may distort it a little bit but we'll see. It may end up being shinier depending on whether or not I decide to put on a clear coat tomorrow, trying to see what others have done

 

Haha I helped Blake pull his bumper back down today... He told me the story about how it happened, I thought it was pretty funny.

 

The lexus centers will look good with those wheels, too bad you couldn't paint them.

 

Did you sand anything or just paint them?

The centers are usually plastic, should have stuck just fine?

 

The caps were sandblasted at the crawl shop I was at. Duplicolor wheel paint is very peculiar, it uses metal shards fused with paint molecules to gain its effect, my guess is it just doesn't like the plastic. Just went out and checked the wheels and the paint is really loose still, the back of the can says if you took your time (like i did) then it takes up to 7 days to dry. I'm going to find a ride to advanced and pick up the clear coat, put one last paint coat on both rims and apply, hopefully they'll be ready by the end of the day.

looks good, but you should have marked the tires then pulled the wheel weights, next time you get tires your gonna see where the wheel weights used to be

 

Yeah the next time I get new meats the rims will be powdercoated, this is just a temporary (read: 1 yr) finish

I may have to redo the paint, I just clear coated them this morning and the paint is still coming off to the touch. I don't have 7 days like the can says I'm just going to do all 4 today and let them bake in the sun, if they work then they work and if not then power wash acid and start all over next week. I did the drums in the same paint last night and they're perfect right now. Slowly getting annoyed

Okay I've found my problem, means a little back tracking but I'll be done by days end hopefully. Here's a rough placement with the color

I think that color looks sweet- what is it exactly? just "duplicolor gunmetal gray"? hope it all works out in the sun- we're getting some of that up here, but it's also just 32*...

yeah its just auto primer and duplicolor. the rears are finished going to finish the fronts

I'll be cleaning it up next week probably, too busy between now and snowboarding Friday. It's finally done though, have some areas I need to touch up but other than that woohoo!

thanks. haha i've had sliders for a year or so now, along with lockers and some more goodness even a SFA and half of the required components for the swap....it's out in San Diego my dads been holding onto it for me. I recently sold the sliders via my dad to someone in Romona to get myself a little more money. I don't have the money for shipping nor the time/funds for install, and definitely no money to pay for the repercussions of wheeling recently. I've been planning on going out there this summer and installing the rest but I may be selling it off piece by piece to get some money back. For now though I'm liking the idea of less weight on my car, I need every penny nowadays

 

You need to get that together man and wheel it, put some pin-stripping on it and get some dents

If your concerned with less weight and saving cash, might wanna try ditching the rack. Mine dropped my mpg by 2, I only use it when i need it, and I am tipsy enough right now without the added weight up there and 35's probably aren't helping ya, even though they look good

 

all very true statements but i had to pick and choose what i wanted. The 315s don't really have too much effect on me down here in coastal Georgia over the 285s, the biggest elevation change is about 100 feet so most of the time i just cruise. I do ditch the rack for the most part its just up there right now because I'm going snowboarding on Friday. Trust me, once the rest of the goodies go on there's no turning back. I just have to remind myself that this is my DD as well right now, I mess it up i'm out of a car plain and simple
