i have it cut off about 3 foot behind cat. sounds pretty good right around 2000 -2500 above that it gets a little highish piched, but louder than a ricer with a fart can. lol

 

For the record, straight pipes are illegal on street legal vehicles. And YT does not condone illegal activities.

It's loud and will get tiresome and annoy everybody around you but if your under 18 you'll probably love it but it is illegal.

itd probabally sound pretty good in the mid range.. im kicking around the idea of cutting off my pipe a few inches after the exhaust....

had mine strait for about a week cuz welder wouldn't work. Not a good idea. It was horribly loud. couldn't even hear myself think. radio wouldn't go loud enough for me to hear it. plus as death couger said it's illegal, and everyone will know it's strait pipe cuz of the volume.

 

This is soo weak. Straight pipes? On a yota? Are you serious?

 

straight pipes even sound like on a 2004 hemi...so they will sound like on anything else..get a good muffler..flowmaster...magnaflow..cherrybomb...

you should a CherryBomb EXTREME...i've heard them...they sound BADA$$ on a 3.4L

 

unless of course the factory does it .... SRT-4 Neons were straight pipes from the factory, which is of course why they are so obnoxious.

 

What are trying to gain by doing this? You will lose low end power, it is good to have some back pressure. You may be circle track racing where you will be at high rpm's all the time, and then it would benefit you.

 

A little off topic but..People say"backpressure is good" is because they believe that increased backpressure by itself will increase torque, particularly with a stock exhaust manifold. Granted, some stock manifolds act somewhat like performance headers at low RPM, but these manifolds will exhibit poor performance at higher RPM. This, however does not automatically lead to the conclusion that backpressure produces more torque. The increase in torque is not due to backpressure, but to the effects of changes in fuel/air mixture.The ECM that controls the engine will detect that the engine is burning leaner than before, and will adjust fuel injection to compensate. So, in effect, reducing backpressure really does two good things: The engine can use work otherwise spent pushing exhaust gas out the tailpipe to propel the car forward, and the engine breathes better. Of course, the EMC's ability to adjust fuel injection is limited by the physical parameters of the injection system (such as injector maximum flow rate and fuel system pressure), but with exhaust backpressure reduction, these limits won't be reached. Also The faster an exhaust pulse moves, the better it can scavenge out all of the spent gasses during valve overlap,smaller pipes pulse faster. So to some it up You don't need backpressure, you need as high a flow velocity as possible with as little backpressure as possible end of story.

 

WOW you put way too much thought into that. How about you take the muffler off and let us know how it works for you. I have had a few toyotas come into the dealership with no mufflers and check engine lights glowing. Due to the lack of backpressure, the ECU can not compensate enough to meet the needed parameters. End result, mulltiple DTC's, and a poor performing engine.

i get pissed off when i hear a straight piped 4cyl or a v6. its so annoying to listen to.

 

If you could show me anywhere it states "back pressure is required" I'll be a believer. I stand by the faster the pulse leaves the exhaust the better the engine scavenges the low volume gases out result better performance. As for taking out the muffler, I'ts been gone for 2 yrs and 50,000 miles, yup straight off the cat and still quiet enough to not be noticed. My 3.slow is faster at takeoff and able to pass cars on the highway.Carbed engines are another story. I'm sure to be flamed, but show me the proof not here say or urban myth.
