7500 mile Chassis Lubrication

My maintenance manual says I should lubricate the chassis at 7500 mile intervals, specifically the universal joints and slip yoke. I can't find grease fittings or points to put grease fittings in on either assemblies. Is it only 4wd models that have to get greased, the manual doesn't specify. If I need to do it whats the easiest way?

I have the same question. I found two lube fittings on my '99 2WD and none on my '02 2W. Did I miss any other points? Bphilips -- Is yours a 3 Gen? Year?

The writeup seems to apply to 4x4 only (???)

Mine is an 02 SR5, same thing though...no zerk fittings. My maintenence manual says that the fitting my have to be installed, but I found no place to even install them. the joints seem to have sealed units. I could be wrong, and I hope I am...I've paid to have that done for the last 7 years.

2002 4Runner Repair Manual, Volume 1, Page MA-9:

"4WD: Lubricate Propeller Shaft"

No mention of doing the same service on the 2WD.

If the same service was to be done on a 2WD the FSM would not preface the step with "4WD"

If a alternate propeller shaft lubrication was required for 2WD the FSM would have a "2WD" step (which it doesn't).

So if it is not in the FSM, it's a fair bet that you have a completely sealed propeller shaft aka driveline - with no lubrication required.

Thanks much, skjos, for looking up the '02 repair manual. Do you also have a '99 FSM? As I mentioned before, I only found 2 zerk fittings on my 2W '99 SR5 3.4L. Just want to be sure that's all the lube fittings on a 99.

My '99 FSM, page MA-12, also shows Section 13, Lubricate Propeller Shaft, only for 4WD and no mention of 2WD. When I look at the exploded diagrams in the Propeller Shaft Chapter, page PR-7 clearly shows and labels the grease fittings on the 4WD shafts. Page PR-3 shows NO fittings at all on the 2WD shaft--so I guess you have two more than you are supposed to? In any case, I wouldn't worry about looking for any more.
