This guy went from 24 mpg to 34 mpg by adding 2 ounces of acetone to 10 gallons of fuel! I did some reading and it looks like it is legit. So has anyone tried this yet? Iīm heading to walmart to buy some acetone!

Was tried in the 70s during the first gas crunch, wasn't found to be a viable solution.

But then again, since you found it on the internet, it must be true.

A few people on here tried it and got some positive results!

 

Try it & let us know. Don't forget to get some Good baselines first. City MPG, Hwy MPG & combined MPG would be nice. Post the Baselines before the acetone test.

If you want better gas mileage, drive slower.

 

I don't like canned meat but post here if you want, I guess, acetone has a weird way of breaking down petroleum molecules. It's almost like it was designed as a cleaner or (dis)solvent.

 

I heard it does wonders for breaking down rubber seals in your fuel system.
..I wonder if people that have tried it would actually admit that it did not improve their mileage.

Its made to be a polymer solvent!!!

Its used extensively with polyester resin for a solvent, and is pretty much the only thing strong enough to wipe away the stuff.

Not to mention: Try and put some acetone on some styrofoam and watch the madness.

Its what they used in Aliens to create the melting floor appearance from the Aliens saliva.

Being in the surfboard industry, we use a lot of crazy chemicals....so I know about some bad things that happen... uhhh..... when... someone... uhh ... ELSE does it...

A few ounces in a fuel system is NOT going to yield 10mpg. You would have better luck supplementing your fuel with water lol

 

ya ill stick with just putting GAS in my Gastank.. i have had to replace entire fuel fuel lines on a few trucks and i think ill pass on doing that again. the only time i ever put anyhting in my tank was a bottle of HEET fuel stabilizer in my 85, i didnt have money to do some major tune up parts on it to make it pass emmisions so a friend told me to try a bottle of HEET in a half tank of gas.... and it worked.. passed with flying colors lol iv also heard rubbing alcohol will work for that use also.. but as with acetone, in high doses it will eat rubber.

 

I think I going to try it out and if it shows a economical gain I going to test the corrosiveness of the mix. First I would take a cup of gasoline and put some fuel line and some common rubber o-rings in it. Then I would do the same with a glass of acetone and one with the proportional mixture of the two(0.156% acetone). I would then monitor the deterioration over several months and maybe a year+ if I donīt get distracted by porn or something.

 

Sounds like a waste of time and gas, which I thought the point was to save.

Look, by all means waste your time and possibly your fuel system.

It sounds like you're looking for someone to tell you it sounds like a good idea, it does not.

You can also get about five mpg better fuel economy from inflating your tires to
75 psi........ just because you can, doesn't make it a good idea.

Price out all the rubber pieces of your fuel system and let me know what the total is.

 

Don't post something ludicrous at best and expect people not to tell you so. You did ask.
