Question New clutch soon.. any suggestions

So I have a feeling that I am be needing a new clutch soon. I am not sure where I should go to get the best clutch for the money.. does any one know anything about some of the clutches on ebay? How are the ones that autozone and Orielly's has? I have got over 200,000 out of the factory which is from AISIN correct. Where is the best place to get OME clutch kits?

trdparts4u.com is the cheapest OEM that I know of. Great service and fast processing as well.

I would pick it up from them and have the stealer install it unless you know a shop that can do it right. Personal experience is that I won't have 3rd party do it again...my .02

I just checked there and they are saying $510 for the clutch and throughout bearing. I know that i want to replace the pilot bearing as well, which I will probably go to the dealer to get if I cant get it with the kit.. $510 seems like a lot. What have others been paying for complete clutch kits?

Where are you looking at and what parts, cause I just priced it at 265.59 + tax and shipping. I priced for a 1997 Tacoma V6.

Clutch Disc - 95.25
Pilot Bearing - 4.78
Pressure Plate - 95.50
Release Bearing - 70.06

ok I see where I went. I went to the accesories section and was looking at the TRD clutches. I see where I go to replacement parts now and it takes you to a link that is an outside website. $265 is'nt bad at all. Just out of curiosity what is the big difference with a TRD clutch? Does anyone have one in their truck? Also I have seen a clutch by excedy on ebay, does anybody have anything to say about those or own one? I also happened to see a clutch on ebay claiming to be all OEM from ASIN for $153 Item number: 350171603039, if anybody could verify that that would be an awesome deal, but you never know.. at least I never do

Glad that helped. I know that some have the TRD clutches, and they are supposed to have better holding pressure with not being able to notice very much at the pedal I believe, but there are people on here who know much better than I do. I just know that OEM clutch was a lot better than the one that I had put into my truck, and now I regret it a lot. I will prob be putting an OEM one in once I get some other issues dealt with first.

I went through this exact same dilema last year and in the end decided to go with a marlin Crawler clutch. Parts are pretty much all Aisin parts and they've worked great for the past year. I highly recommend them.

Our Heavy Duty Clutch Kits are a huge step above stock clutches, and unlike other aftermarket clutches, are designed for the Rock Crawler...we now have them assembled from the manufacture exactly to Marlin's specifications. The end result is a clutch that offers excellent longevity, smooth pedal pressure for those long days on the trail, and a high torque rating for a sure engagement every time.

so I took a look at the Marlin crawler kit. Looks like another good deal. Im just curious as to which part of the kit are from AISIN and which are from other brands i.e. marlin crawler..? Also what is it that they do to it that gives you another 300 ft lbs of holding capacity? and is there any added pedal pressure or any other differences from the characteristics a full factory replacement kit?

Probably the best thing to do would be to call or drop an email, I had been curious about those things myself, just have not got around to asking because I don't need a clutch yet.

so I gave Marlin crawler a call and a friendly gentleman informed me that all of the components are from AISIN and what they do is order them with the specifications they need which in this case is another 300 ft-lbs of holding capacity. So you are getting parts from the oem manufacturer just built to a high spec. Also the bearings that come with their kits are from Nachi which apparently is a very reputable company. I checked at my local dealership and their kit was about $100 more that the Marlin Crawler kit.. Sound like I will be going with the Marlin crawler.. Also they recommended that if you are replacing a clutch it would be a good idea to have the flywheel machined to remove haze and any warp.

That right there is great info, thanks for posting it up.

Also definitely get the flywheel machined, anytime you replace a clutch.
