Its almost 4am and I'm sick of studying.

I carry my HiLift in my cargo box, but its a pain to drag out and takes up more than its fair share of room.

Anyone bolted it to the stock bumper a bit like this? Is the bumper beefy enough or will it work the bumper loose over time do you think?

 

Unless you go through one of the bumper brackets itself (good luck on it lining up correctly0 I think you are asking for trouble, seems to me the bolt would eventually pull itself through the factory bumper. Now if you were to make some sort of backing material (1/4") or something that would act as a mini frame and take part of the stress it might work.
that high lift weighs 30-40 lbs and the stress of it moving it would suck to have it rip through the stock bumper at hwy speeds...

 

What if you took off the bottom valence of your bumper and made something coming from the front crossmember? Seems there would be plenty of room.

 

Your gonna smash it on stuff if you put it there.. try mounting it higher than that. Otherwise looks like an easy/good idea

 

Below the bumper is way too exposed and I worry the my Hi Lift would look like the valence ended up looking like.

 

I wouldn't bolt anythign to the stock "bumper" cause calling it a bumper is a stretch.

You should know that studying at 4 am does you no good. Better to fail well rested.

i bet it will get stolen in a week. my spare tire got jacked first day i left it in the bed

 

You could mount it on the hood like the old Land Cruiser guys use to.

 

LOL, I wouldn't carry it around everywhere daily. Just when I might need it, which as it turns out, doesn't appear to be as often as I thought. God bless shovels and a rear locker. Seems that with the locker, there is seldom a situation I can't reverse out of.

 

I'm fine with the front bumper, its high enough and the approach angle is good enough that I've never scraped it on anything. The rear is a flimsy little something though (given the departure angle)- that's been smacked silly, and sits crooked and is banged up quite a bit.

 

i think the front would be fine... altho, if it were mine i would reinforce it with a 1/4"plate spanning the length of the bolt holes...

 

I'm more worried about where the bumper mounts to the frame, but I may do something like what I'm suggesting.

 

Yeah, after my last suggestion, I would have added it would be too low and would get smashed up. I like the hood idea though, see a lot of heep guys do it.

 

Can't you buy a roof rack for your runner? Then you'd have a place to mount the jack and if you get one with a raised lip around it you could store other stuff up there as well. Then you could add a couple of lights, a shovel mount etc.

 

well, the one problem that i see with the roof rack, even tho i want one, is if its a daily driver, the wind resistance and the drop in gas mileage isnt worth it unless you keep everything up there...

also, idk about you guys, but i have a 60" hi-lift jack and that thing would be a beesh to lift onto the roof of my truck... i wouldnt want to hit the paint or anything...

 

Where do you get brackets to mount a hi lift?

I've been thinking about picking one up and wanted to mount it to the factory roll bar, but don't have the tools available to make some mounts/brackets.

 

You don't need brackets to mount it to a Runner rollbar - just find a bolt to match the upper hole on the bar (turn it into a T-handle) and bolt it to that hole and have the base sitting on the floor against the rear gate.
