Can Anyone help me solve this problem i hav an 1985 toyota 4x with a 22r carburated engine & when i change gears it back fires tru the exhaust sometimes very loud i thought it was caused by an exhaust leak but i had new exhaust installed & new gaskets & it still does it & it dont seem to flood runs great & strong.

On the 22r there should be a vacuum operated dashpot. This is a device that keeps the engine from backfiring when changing gears. Look for something that has a diaphragm, a vacuum input, and a plunger that hits the throttle. I checked th FSM so forget all this and check your MC Mixture Control system. See pages EC-26 and EC-27 in 1985 FSM available online.
