Aux. Fuse Box Questions

Hello all,

There are several items(Aux. cig lighters, front and back power inverters, CB, fog lights, etc.) I would like to install, but I don't want a bunch of wire running to my battery.

Now, I have been reading about an aux. fuse box mod. I think this would be the best way to go, or so I hope. I don't know a lot about this kind of stuff, so, below are a few questions I hope you guys can help me out with.

1. Can you wire it up with a power switch in the cab? I would like to be able to shut the power off to the whole aux. fuse box when I don't need it, instead of switches for each component connected to it.

2. Is it better to have it in the engine compartment or in the cab?

3. I have a sub and amp installed with a big cable already running to the battery. Is there a possibility I can save some money and tie the fuse box into that?

I'm also wondering if maybe I need another battery or something. Like I said, I'm not real savvy when it comes to this stuff. Thanks for the help.

1. Yes, get a switched fuse block or add a relay between the power cable and the fuse block. Some good blocks below:

2. Either works, usually you want the fuses close to the devices they will power.

3. Sure, as long as that wire has enough capacity for the existing plus future loads.

The Blue Sea stuff rocks.

You also might try 12voltguy...he has some unique stuff and does custom work.

Cool Beans. I decided to go with the Blue sea fuse block. I happened upon another write-up here http://www.fjcruiserforums.com/forum...on-w-pics.html that I am going to kind of follow. I was thinking of putting in a three way switch from the relay that would allow me to turn power to the aux block off, turn it on when the truck is off, or just automatically turn on with the ignition switch. So, when I get the parts in I will try to document the endeavor. Thanks for the help gents.

That depends. If you're going to put an aux. fuse block under the dash or in the back of your vehicle, then the power lead will need another fuse within a foot of the battery. Failure to do so would mean the potential of a fire if the wire going to the block shorted out.
