And it got me thinking... What all do you guys do to do river crossings. I mean allz I know is moving the battery and computer is a good idea. Thing is I got a pretty nice truck but dont seem to like the water at all (even when its raining). After a good minut of driving town in the rain avoiding puddles it starts acting really bad. Misfiring, backfiring, cuttinging in and out, Idling extreemly rough untill I let it dry out. I got a lot of guesses but if you guys could steer a newb in the right direction it would be greatly appriated.

 

First, it's spelled submersible ... next, if you're in water deep enough for that to matter, you got bigger problems to worry about!

Yours sounds like simple maintenance - plugs, cap, rotor, wires with dielectric grease and RTV in the right spots.

 

look under your distributor cap also, make sure no moisture is getting under there.

 

well what i did to my tail rig witch might be soon to be my dd now

hot glue or seal up the dizzy cap after you cleaned it complety
deeletric grese every conection under the hood and in the cab!
move the computer behind the glove box or on the roof between the headliner and the viser

take the inake out and instal a sorkle!!

make the diff beathers longer take the rear end one and bring to the top of the cab may look a lil funny but it works! same with the front bring it up as high as you can

and install a ele fan or dont rev over 3,500 rpms or you can make the fan into a boat prop and take out your rad!

becarefull this is as always a do at your own risk but you should have alot of fun as well

-also extend your transfer case and transmission breathers.
-convert to an electric fan that you can have on a switch. Having the stock fan grind into a radiator makes a cool noise.

also if your truck is missing the spray guards under your fendwells (seems like they get tossed when people do a body lift) put some back in...

 

Submerge-able?

Drive it into deep water. It will submerge. Guaranteed.

 

Extend all of your breathers. Do the distributor mod like in my thread there. Make an intake snorkel. Basically anything that needs air or cant get wet you want to protect.
I'm also thinking about putting a subtle stack on mine. When you get mud and water in your cat and muffler its a real pita, i'm gonna make one that sits below the bed rails so you cant see it

Awsome thanks for all the great answers. Yeah I looked in the distributor and there is sign of foul play involving water in there. I got new pickups going to change out the rotor and cap. Going to go ahead and replace the wires and plugs. Should I dielectric grease the wires @ the coil and plugs?

 

There's 2 holes in the bottom of the distributor (technically the side, closest to the engine). I did the seal up the distributor and extend the vent tube thing as well but I still ended up with condensation in the cap. Problem is there's no air moving in there. I've been running like this for a year now with a bunch of deep water crossings and no longer have any distributor related issues.

Also RTV around that base of the cap.

 

Diesel with a mechanical injector pump. Seal up and vent everything that you put oil in (ie: tranny, diffs, etc). Seal all electricals. Take out all the carpets and upholstery (I don't know what you'll do for seats, as they'll rot).
