Wheel fitment: FJ to 4Runner?

I know a guy in my local area that will be selling a set of Helo Maxx 6 wheels. They're currently mounted on a 2007 FJ Cruiser and are the 16x8 variety with 4.5" of BS. He has Mickey Thompson MTZ's mounted on the wheels currently, but they're too shot to use, so they'll be dismounted. They're the chrome Helo's and think they'll look great on my rig. He's asking ~$300 for the set. Will these fit on my 02?

It's likely that 285's will rub your upper control are with those wheels because they have a larger backspace than your stock rims. An FJ Cruiser's stock backspace is much larger than 3rd gen 4Runner's.

IIRC, the LC wheels everyone has been using have the same backspacing of 4.5" as these Helo's. Can't say for sure if that solves the fitment issue, but does seem to suggest they might fit.

I ran stock 5-spoke alloys (4.3" backspace) with 285's for quite some time, and the 285's just barely fit. I'm pretty sure 285's on a 4.5" backspace rim would have rubbed, especially on the upper control arm when drooped. Your results may vary, some people an clear 285's wih 4.5" backspace rims, others can't.

Stock backspacing is like 4.625 and most people clear the upper a-arms with stock wheels so you should be fine. You are correct that the LC wheels and LX450 wheels are about 4.5" backspacing and I have seen people run 305s on those. Remember higher backspacing means closer to the upper a-arm.

Stock backspacing is not 4.3" it is 4.625".

edit: Here is the link to a thread with measurements and pictures. https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f2/3...w-pics-135007/

Yeah I don't know what the deal was but for a while there was a whole bunch of information floating around on here about the stock backspacing being 4.375 or something. Not sure where it came from but I measured my stockers before I sold them and got 4 5/8" and then the other guy made that thread with pictures and everything. It's a nice reference.
