EDIT: POST 60 HAS BEFORES AND AFTERS.

So this evening i tinted my windows. I just threw some tint on the back cargo ones. Heres the write up. Its not that well detailed but you get it.

So after noticing that the stock "bronze" tint just isnt dark enough and i dont want to drop stupid amounts of money on my truck, i decided to try and tint them myself.

A few days ago i took some poster board and taped it to the outside of my cargo windows. Then i took a light, put it on the inside and started to cut it out. After about an hour (i had to wait for the sun to go down) I ended up with this.


Heres the tint i used. Its at autozone for $10 for just the basic stuff. I think it looks good but there is tint already on the window. Its called "Gila"


Here are the tools i used


Make sure you use just plain soap and water to clean both sides of the window. I used a squeegee and just flicked the water on the ground.

After you get the tint, lay it out and put the template over it. Now this is where i messed up. I forgot that the glue is only on one side. So take your time before you cut it out and make sure you wont mess up and the glue will be on the correct side.

I dont want to bore you guys with a novel on how to tint but its all over youtube. haha.

Anywho this is what i ended up with.

Haha, i also used the tennis ball too. lol jk.

Its actually really easy, its just cutting out the tint. Laying it on the window is the easy part.

 

I tried it and lets just say i suck at it. lol

 

Alright. Heres some pics from outside. I will admit its not professional but its exactly what i was going for. There are some bubbles but you cant see them unless your lookin for em.



It made the rear window ever darker.

Well Im at it again. I just put some 35% over the factory stuff on my back window.

its a cell phone pic because my camera is dead.

Then i decided i wanted to support the back window so i got out 3 tires and some wood


Im waiting for the glue to dry more before i roll the window down, put the door up, then roll the window back up.

how do you allow for your back window to roll down when the tailgate is open?

 

so total cost was around $10? and how hard is that stuff to peel off if i was to mess up?

 

Im a hacker. haha.

Open it, then take a screwdriver and push the 2 latches down, they will go down 1 click, then push em down to the other click.

Then to put the gate back up, roll the glass back down (in to the door), then while pulling the handle pull the latches back up with the screwdriver, then do the same for the other one. haha.

 

1 roll (26'' by 6.5ft) did both side cargo windows, then the small ones in the back doors. I have alot of tint left over but i cant use it on anything else. $10 a roll, i needed 2 because i messed up and didnt think about the glue side and the tint side. I used 5% for this

1 roll (same size as the other) did the back window with plenty left over.
also $10. I used 35% for this.

Its really easy to mess up while peeling the film off of the liner, it can crease and it doesnt come out. ill show you a pic. The tint comes off with a razer blade, but the glue is still there. You can use a steamer for windows with defrost lines.

For other windows. just get some soapy water and spray it on the window. take a razer and start scraping. You wont scratch the glass unless you start doing a cutting motion.

Search youtube for removing and installing tint. I watched alot of ppl tint before i tried mine. a 2nd person really helps for spraying water on the film when you peel it.

Total ran me $30. I still havent done any roll downs with a frame.

lol i did my rear side windows today. squeegeed with my drivers licence card lol. i screwed up on one side and had to peel it off. it just got dark so i couldnt see a thing. so after squeegeeing with my license i got my ipod and spent like 10 mins to find spots where i screwed up. in the process the paper towel came off the card and i made a few nice holes in the tint. time to use a marker lol. the tint is 95 percent dark so u cant see a single thing outside at night. ill take pics tommorow
