How do I check a 22re oil pump

I have a 1992 toyota truck and its makeing a weird noise, A guy loked at it and said that it sounded like the top end is not geting oil ....... So how do i check to make sure the top end is getting oil ?

Im sure its not the recommended method, but you could pull off your valve cover and turn it over a few times. see if you get sprayed in the face with oil, lol.

I know with my truck, if i pull the oil cap off while its running, it does spray a little. So try that first, no spray = pull off the valve cover. See if theres aeven oil on everything before running it.

If your engine has good oil pressure, then the pump is ok. If it doesn't, it could be a pump problem or a bearing wear problem.

There are lots of noises that can come from the top of the engine. Probably the two most common are caused by rattling timing chains (sometimes a very severe problem and it needs to be looked into/addressed) and loose rockers. If there is a noise coming from the top of the engine towards the rear that is not remedied by properly adjusting the valves, it may be due to excessive wear in the valve train/cam moving parts and it may be a result of poor oil flow. It that's the case, either live with it, as it's not likely to cause a catastrophic failure, or replace parts as necessary.
