Paint shop is located in Gardena. Called Ultra Trim. They do alot of dealer work so i felt really safe with them. Ill start off with some before shots then show you the final. I also had them install the spoiler as well.

You know, I'm really glad that Toyota did not offer that grey cladding an any of the JDM models.

It really looks great now.

Looks great and it looks like they did real good quality work on it. I am trying to get my valence (96-98) painted but one of the paint shops told me that it might not work and its not gauranteed because its plastic Should I just try to go to another shop and see what they say?

 

There are several processes that you must go through for plastic painting. You have to prep the plastic panels carefully and spray with a special coat that acts as a paint adhesive.

The paint itself must be mixed with a flex agent. This keeps the paint flexible when dry.
There's some other stuff but that's the basic stuff.

Many paint jobs do not last and crack, chip, peel within a few years or sooner. The plastics are flexible so the surfaces move, flex, etc and that is hard for the paint to hold the surface- besides the fact the plastics are "slippery" for paint.

(this part I don't know-my friend told me so not sure if it's true)
The reason factory paint jobs do so well on plastics is that the additives they spray are illegal to spray in the USA. Very stringent pollution/health codes.
So, the aftermarket painter/repair shop cannot replicate OEM because the binding/flex additives are illegal to use here.

I don't know if I believe him or not. I am thinking high quality paint places would give you a long-lasting paint job.

Anyway, your SR5 looks beautiful and I have to admit alot better than the grey!! It looks money baby!

 

Look 100% better in the one tone paint, also spoiler gives it style. Did you get you front door windows tinted also?

 

oh I just thought it might have been cool to paint the lowers silver or metallic grey. Kind of like some of the 3rd Gens. That might have looked cool too.

 

Yeah....front windows got tinted yesterday. Next project is the sounds then the HID lights.

Do you know if the 3rd gen radios are the same as the 4rth gen. Double din? I dont know if i want to put in a single din and have the cheap plastic look making up the extra din.

If you really cannot get anywhere, I know on 99's the valance comes from the factory pre-painted.

There are enough maniacs out here putting TRM's on that you could probably pick up a 3rd gen facelift bumper to put on your truck and that can be painted.

My 99 came with a grey valance which I replaced with a green one from Toyota !

but............... I was preparing myself for the "Final" pics and was anticipating flames over half of the front. Man am I glad you didn't do that! Now you'll be getting your "Schwerve" on!

IMHO, that added a couple grand to your selling price in the end....just like if you add the flares/cladding to a base 3rd gen.

I think it would lose value because even though it looks good now, most people know that re-painting is never as good as the original and will eventually start to fade. Personally, if I knew a car was repainted, I would not buy it.

 

I bought the 4runner with the intention of keeping it till it dies. So selling it is not a concern. Also, the paint shop offered a 3 year warranty on the paint. Even if it does fade/chip after 3 years....i could just repaint. Cost wasent overpriced.

Had my 4runner for almost a year now and continue to fall in love with it as the months go by.

 

I must admit that the 03 white 4runners should be single tone. The dual tone just doesn't look right...

Gosh... that's what it is about the 4th gens I don't like! That silly grey cladding! Ugh! I definately think it looks a ton better, you had a great idea (and good taste too!)/.
