changing add to manual aisins

I am out here changing these right now and when i set the new Aisin hub on the truck the gold bolt will thread up and tighten but it isnt really holding anything. The manuakl hub still has about 1/16-1/8" of free play. Now putting the cone washers in and tightening the 6 perimeter nuts will hold in on but still.......whats the purpose of the gold bolt? Do i have something wrong?? SHould the gold bolt even go back on??

Also, HOly .....this cant be this easy...I must be doing something wrong...forgetting something..6bolts off, cone washers out, pop off plate and put on manual body? WOW. Reinstall cone/nuts and presto? I am thinking that gold bolt is just going to be a savior in case I snap a CV........what everyone think?

Yes, it really is that easy. I have done many a swap, and it shoud take about 15-20 mins per side. It is really easy.

The bolt does indeed go back on, just the way it came off. It keeps the axle from moving out of the hub body, in conjunction with the C clip.

yep everything went together perfect. The biggest savior was taking MAtt's advice and pounding out the axle studs and grinding down the splines and using them as bolts. I cant image the pain of trying to stab that front differential in with the studs attached and having to line them all up.....let alone the extra clearance issues.

One more ? on the hubs though. Went I put the dials and the housing on (compressing the spring in) I was expecting them to just go straight on. That didnt want to work as the dial didnt really do anything. What I did was to put them straight in and then turn the dial and the housing counter-clockwise two bolt hole and then bolt them up. This engages everything fine and they unlock fine as well. Did i do this right?

Yes, you have to match up the inner and outer splines of the engaging gear, to get it to sit down properly. You did it right.
