2003-04 Tacoma - CA emissions - 50 state legal?

I've searched the forums and I can't find the answer I'm looking for.

I'm shopping for a 2003 or 2004 Tacoma D-cab Prerunner.
I live in TX.

There is a great one that a national dealer has in CA... exactly what I want for color, condition, miles, price... except if it has some extra CA emissions stuff that will cause me extra expense/headaches down the road.

Were there CA emission Tacomaa built and 49 state Emission Tacomas built? I've heard that Toyota started building them all 50 state legal since many states were going to start adopting CA Emission regulations but I can't find credible documentation of that claim.

Is there a difference between a Tacoma I'd buy in CA than one I'd buy here in TX (assuming their original market was where they are now).

Thanks in advance.

I believe the only difference is the CA model will have egr valve and related piping. I have a 04 tacoma and live on the east coast it does not have an egr valve.

I read in a post that a guy believed his CA Tacoma to have two catalytic converters and they were labeled as CA specific models... and they were much more expensive to replace than 49 state legal cats.

All 2001+ Tacomas are 50 state legal. There are no special emissions parts etc that the vehicles have. IIRC, the technology no longer relys on EGR, and yes they all have 2 cats.
