Mr Bill Says................................

OH NOoooooooo !

Last week I got my Megasquirt up and running, So Last night I enlisted my 19yo son to drive my truck while I operated the laptop for some fine tuning.

We went on a good long road test and were "almost home" when we hit a slick spot on an exit ramp and he lost control.

We used the Guard rail as a grind rail.

I'm going to take it to my shop tonight to have a closer look at the damage, but so far besides the obvious damage to the cab and bed i can see;

Bent right lower control arm
right strut rod
drag link
crossmember under the oil pan
Dented oil pan
front valance
ripped out the spare tire carrier
big crease in the fuel tank

A friend told me today that the reason this happened is because I was getting to close to "finished" and my truck has always been a work in progress.

I have'nt figured it out yet, but I'll think of some way to make it better.

And the Megasquirt is not finish tuned yet, but we made good progress and it runs better than ever at this point.

Just drives like poopy now

as we were "grinding" the top of the rail the posts were bashing the bottom of the truck......

Bam bam bam..... bam

Honestly when I got out of the truck I expected the entire under carrige would be dismembered.

I've had it up on the lift now and found some more damage then previously mentioned, But considering the circumstances I think we got off light.

I'll post more pics tonight to show the extent of the damage.

I'll also keep eveyone up to date on the recovery of Sunny D.

Sorry to hear/see that. At least everyone is ok. And also, me being 20 and having wrecked my dad's cars a couple times, try not to give him to much of a hard time...it's not fun knowing you wrecked a beautiful truck and also being punished.

I thank you all for your sentiments.

As for punishment... How can I punish him when he was doing as instructed? It's just unfortunate that he had to learn this lesson behind the wheel of my truck.

and really I don't think there is much I could do that trumps how bad he feels about it.

I'm not much on 2wd's, but that truck is sweet! Sucks, but fixing them is half the fun. I like the 4x4 fenders and that orange is screaming. Keep on keepin on!

that definitely sucks.

maybe you could "mad max" it out with exocage, 50 cal gun in the bed...
nevermind.

tub the rear and go dually, custom rear wheel wells flaring out starting at the doors, testarossa style....
nevermind,

I'm sure it'll come back better than before.

If I only had a Supra to scavenge the rear IRS from,,,,,,,, Pipe dream,,,,,,
maybe

Here's some more pics...

Rear shot on the guard rail:

Hole in the cab side:

crosmember damage. The frame ears are pull almost 3/4" together. You can't see it in this shot, but the are also twisted towards the rear:

in this shot you can see how the ear is twisted back, how far back the draglink is bent, and the bent left strut rod

Bent right lower control arm and strut rod

this is down the rocker panel

and inside the rocker

and the fuel tank. the arrow point to where the tank almost split open

Wow, thats some damage.

So you're going to rebuild? Just get her back to her former shape or any goodies you got in mind?
