Well, I'm just about done with my HG replacement and I had thought that I had done a good job labeling. Guess not. As you all know, there are metal vacuum lines that run in between the plenum and the valve cover--as it reaches the back, where do the top two lines go?

Also, there is a bulbous looking think underneath my intake. it has a small metal pipe (that you would slide a vacuum tube on) that points downward. Any ideas as to what this is and what hooks to it? Thanks for any light you can shed on the situation!

 

i am suscribing to this thread, my vacuum lines on my 22re are as close as i could get to where they're supposed to be , but i am not sure.

 

I had the exact same problem. The service manual is very vague and descriptive about the whole setup.

what made things worse for me was the previous owner had a california model and did some custom modification to the smog control parts. So hoses were missing and parts were missing. not essential parts, but it did get confusing.

I just did a helluva lot of google image searching for 22re engine pictures and compared mine with theirs. This is probably the best bet. This is what I did.

Also, make sure you look behind the engine and follow every hose. I had a hose coming up for fuel and it dropped below the engine and caused a big mess. Just this one hose added 2 days to the job.

 

Thje bulbous thing you are referring to is the resonator for your reed valve....about a 1 inch rubber hose should come off your intake tube, connect to the resonator, and another hose similar in size to that one connects to the reed valve., which is olted to the bottom of your plenum.This is all part of the air injection, which injects clean air from the filter, into the exhaust manifold, helping burn off certain particles before exiting the exhaust pipe.

The vacuum lines:Its hard to tell from my diagrams, but they have to go to the EGR vacuum modulator, and the EGR valve. Thats about as close as I can get you.

 

I have had similar problems before and went down the street to a neighbors and asked to look at his. He let me drive it down and put it my driveway for an A/B comparison.

Toyotas are everywhere. Could you do this maybe??

 

Those two lines are routed as such: From the Throttle Body "E" port connects to the top metal line then connects to "P" on the Vacuum Modulator for the EGR. The second line down goes from the "R" on the T.B. to the "R" on the Vacuum Modulator for the EGR. This is the way it is on my 1988 22re. As for "a bulbous looking think underneath my intake" I think you are talking about the "AS Valve" and this has a vac line running to the second port on the "VSV" vacuum switch which is the one with the brown plug and sitting on the valve cover.

I hope this helps. I will go take pictures if you need. I also still have a somewhat visible vacuum route lable under my hood.

Great info guys! I think I have all the vacuum lines figured out. Right now, the truck turns over but doesn't stay running. I'm getting a code 13, something to do with the distributer. It might be off a notch. Also, I have a small coolant leak--I think it is the pipe that connects with the intake.

 

Make sure you have your air intake tube hooked up, from the air filter to the intake. That can cause the code 13.

 

where does the metal hose come from that hooks up to the AS reed valve. last owner took all that crap off. now I have to put it on the do Smog. ARRRGGG!!!

 

Having the same problem dont know where all the vacuum lines go

it would be really nice if somebody took some pictures of by the fire wall by the egr valve. and the canister. or just go all out and take a picture of everything between the head and the intake

 

I could use a practical reference as well and this forum platform doesn’t
