First I'd like to say that Yotatech is a great site. I've learned a great deal already in the past month (i've been on winter break from college). Thanks to all members for great threads.

Now the question. I want to lift my 3rd gen 4runner 3" with the Toytec med front/rear coils. Would that be enough 33" tires? I've heard and seen both yes and no. I do a decent amount of trail riding and off-roading when I'm home and at school and want more clearance for bigger trails . Any info that that would be sick.. Thanks ya'll

yea sorry about the thread jack. but im gonna be honest. i know nothing about 3rd gens. but is the coils your talking about suppose to lift 3inches? if so i would say you could. but like i said.. i dont know much about them

 

that will absolutely be enough for 33s.. you just have to watch the tire width, it may rub the upper a arm... i have 2.5" and i run 285/75

It won't necessarily be enough to run 33's. Some people have trouble, some don't.

If you keep stock wheels and run 285/75/16's (33x11.50x16), you should be ok.

If you run 305/70/16's (33x12.50x16) you will have some problems unless you get wheels with less backspacing, or run wheel spacers.

 

what do you recommend for backspacing to run 12.50 width?

If you got a 16x8 wheel, I would go 4" backspacing. I ran 305/70/16's on a 16x8 Pro comp wheel with 4" backspacing and had no problems with rubbing at all

please say your a hokie haha.. but bubba i love my bfgs they really didnt kill my mpgs theyre not loud.. real smooth, grip like heck.. the oly real problem ive heard with em is the guys out west say they have weak sidewalls and tear easy, but neither i nor my mechanic have really come across it out here in the east

 

You can also consider running a 255/85/16 which is in the neighborhood of 33" with most manufacturers at slightly more than 33" but skinny at about 10-10.5" A few examples here.

although i have heard great things about the nitto terra grapplers, and on a side note, last year or so BFG changed their rubber formula for a softer ride, and thicker stronger sidewalls

 

B.F.G.'s KO's big issue is with mud build up other then that they are great and seem to last forever I had a set with 50,000 and still had 11/32's tread when I traded up to mudders.

ooh i was tlkin about nc994run, i saw earlier that you said you were in radford... im not up in that area.. i wish it were, everyone on my dads side went to VT engineering and thats where ill be transfeering when i get my gpa up :/ but ive heard of trails up around mountain lake and that area.. try looking into the virginia TTORA or 4ROC virginia. what's the width on 305/70/16s? I dont know the conversion or how to figure that out. I went front wheelin atv quads to trucks recently and just learning everythin.. thanks for the help again
