Depends on how good your fab skills are and how much time you have. Of course you can do it yourself but you need to design, bend and weld all the hangers and parts yourself. Going to take a while. What's you time worth?

As for springs and other parts you need? There are pages and pages of info on SAS's on the net. Invest some time and do some research. Good luck. If you actually wheel your truck you are going to love the solid axle. Make sure you post up some pics.

I think by the time you price everything out and consider all the man hours involved in doing your own kit you will find a $1000 is really a bargan

I built almost everything for mine to save a buck and if I had to do it again I would just buy the kit.

when you sas, should you pick a rear spring thats an inch shorter or longer? or same f/r? i have heard longer cuz of spring sag but do i have to worry about that as much with a pickup? but i also want the front to sit level with the rear

Mine has 5" rear 4" front and it don't look bad at all plus the extra 1" in the rear allows for gear you take with you and still have little to no sag carring the extra weight.
