What made you purchase your vehicle?

 

Room for the dogs in the 4RNR! Plus I can keep my hunting gear in it without it being so easy to steal.

 

Used to have a 97' single cab tacoma and I just bought a 97' 4runner limited. The 4runner was cheaper comparably, easier to find, they all have better frames, and seat more people. The tacoma didn't ride as well but it was a truck, and if you need a truck to haul a bunch of stuff this the way to go.

 

I dont need a truck, but damn why do i want one so bad.

 

i couldnt be happier with mine. i can give a ride to 2 girls and one would just about be on my lap. ...DAMNED 5speed... its also useful when u know a lot of bottom feeders 'oh.. i need a ride... ' 'sorry, can only fit 1 other person' (when i hide my middle seatbelt )

 

can four people, including 1 carseat for a baby fit in the back of a prerunner Xtra cab?? (not double cab)

 

No way. Not even enough room for anymore older than 7 or 8 to fit in the back in an Xtra cab. My dad had a 2000 a while back, and space behind the front seats is minimal at best. Your best bet is a 4Runner if you're planning on having a baby in the car IMO

 

X-Cab? They better be about 4' tall in order to fit back there. I can squeeze in sideways, but it's still an uncomfortable ride. Baby seat is a no-go. Barely clears in my DC.

For me personally, I needed a truck bed for putting all of my muddy or wet hunting/skiing stuff in, hauling crap, etc. I also needed the rear seats, too, so that's why I got a DC Tacoma. It's been a great truck. But I would have been happy had I kept my 4Runner(s), too. You can add a roof basket or pull a small trailer if you've got things to haul.

This isn't a debate, really, because there is no "better" vehicle. It all depends on what you need.

I have a 4Runner, but I want a truck real bad too. The bed of a truck is so useful in many ways, I guess if you want both room for 4 and a bed, a Double cab truck will be nice.

 

cant afford the double cab. its double the price of an xtra cab..
I only have one child. She is 2 yrs old.
Im thinking that she's gonna be pretty small for the next couple of yrs, and she could possible ride comfortable in the back of an xtra cab maybe.
What do you guys think?

 

I'm partial to a 4Runner since when I'm "roughing" it on a camping trip it means I can sleep in the back since I'm not much for tents and it's more secure and the hatch can act as an umbrella when getting stuff out of the back.

Plus at higher hwy speeds the heavier Runner is more stable in crosswinds and I've driven more than a few Tacomas to know this. The air gets under an empty bed of the PU and moves it around too much for me.

 

It wouldn't be safe to have a child in the back of an extra-cab. In my opinion, the extra room is more for cargo but can serve as a short distance place for a person to squeeze.

 

1st gen 4runners have qualities of both since its basically a pickup with seats in the back.

 

I'm at a loss of words as I've never been in any kind of "cross winds" that would make my Tacoma anywhere close to being unstable. Maybe if I were out driving during a hurricane that might be the case.

omg - Keep your 4Runner. Your child and wife will appreciate it. Get a small trailer if you need to haul stuff. You should be able to pick one up for real cheap.

 

I simply know that at speeds over 75mph my 4Runner doesn't get squirelly like my friend's '04 Xtra cab Tacoma did on a recent trip across Nebraska and I was able to maintain that speed easier than he was able too and when we swapped vehicles I felt it first hand.

Double cabs are a bit heavier with less of a bed so I'm sure that help with the stability but a regular cab or a long bed it is noticeable.

 

Do you carry lots of dirty, smelly stuff? Get a pickup, just remember if you want to buy a shell for it they run $1,200 to $1,800.

If you primarily carry people, a 4Runner is your bet.

I too was looking for a Double Cab Tacoma, but the sellers think they are made of gold.

If you want a pickup that can carry people, look at a first generation Tundra Access Cab.

I have both, I don't have to decide which is better.
They both have their own bright spots and are so much different from each other that I truly enjoy them both and like being able to jump in one or the other depending own my mood.

 

My truck fits my needs better than the an suv, but then my wife has the suv so I am not really forced to compromise.

It really depends if you need ppl carrying capacity or stuff hauling capacity.

 

Perhaps his alignment was off. I've had my fair share of seat time in x-cabs and single cabs at freeway speeds and have never felt unstable or any less stable than in my 4Runners. And maintaining speeds isn't a problem with my current truck, nor was it with my old 4Runners. Maybe it's that TBW crap they started putting in the 03+ Tacoma's, but never felt any different in any of the 3.4's that I've owned.
