87 yota pickup question

I was driving along the highway at about 60 70 mph passing a truck and that distinct "humming" that 22r's make kind of was coming in and out while i was driving trying to pass the other vehicle. Anyone know what would cause this or what my problem might be?? thanks in advance.

Sorry........distinct "humming"? And, you're sure this is coming from the motor?

sorry its not coming from the engine, I'm not sure how to explain it other than I was driving along the highway going the speed i mentioned then all of a sudden I started to overheat, then a very short screeching sound like something engaged??(like a loose fan belt screech) I don't have a clutch fan so it can't be my fan becasue its always going. checked my belts and they are nice and tight.

That humming could be my alternator, but my battery has never died and i've had no power problems...any ideas?
