Did Toyota make any 2WD 1st Gen 4Runners? I'm trying to look at cheap brake upgrades for a '85 2WD "race" pickup. The 4Runner brakes are much better.

Could I replace the whole spindle at the ball joints?

Would it work with 2WD or 4WD ones? I was thinking that if I can't find 2WD 4Runner spindles that work, maybe I could just use the 4WD ones without the axles, hubs, internals, etc.?

No, there were no 2wd 1st gen 4Runners. As for swapping the brakes and such, sorry, I don't know 'bout that.

 

They are not swapable, without serious modification.

About the only mods I know are better pads and better rotors.

 

Try 84-85 Supra stuff. Bolt pattern is the same as 2dw pickups. Maybe even newer supra stuff.

 

What about 2wd 2nd gen 4rnrs, something to look into?

 

2wd Pickups are 5 lug and 4 runners and 4wd trucks are 6 lug.
