Ford 4.0 into '86 Pickup?
Never seen it done. I pulled the 22R out for a rebuild, and thought about the perfectly good 4.0 Ford out of my brother's wrecked '96 Ranger. Then I thought about the R151F I saw at the junkyard the other day while parts scrounging. Anyone have experience with this swap and mating combo? Not having much luck with Google. I could probably stick a T-4 or T-5 in there. Whatever crappy tranny came mated to that engine as a worst case scenario. I've only seen it done with a 302. I think the 4.0 would fit better and allow me to keep the A/C. Any experience with this out there? Advance adapters doesn't offer anything that I can see.
This is the truck, picked it up cheap from a buddy. Straight body, very little rust (except the tailgate, of course).

I've heard the same, some old ford motors are reliable... most old ones are but the 4.0 is a pile.

I hear ya about stuff not going right. My plan is to get a fairly new 4.3 when my 3.0 completely dies and put some roller rockers, cam, exhaust, intake, etc. and have some pep again. After these 35"s I could use it.

"why god why! please spare this toyota the agony of bearing a ford motor!!!
jk (kinda)
i really dont know just wanted to harrass ford a bit"
Come on dude! I see all kinds of wack swaps out there, so in my beer fueled garage session I thought about doing something that hadn't been done before. I just can't stand the thought of having another stupid Toyota with another stupid 350 bowtie jammed in there. Anyway, I just went over and measured my neighbors 302 in his work truck, and it should fit without any firewall humping. I'll figure something out...

My buddy has that old Toy diesel that they put in the trucks in his Land Cruiser ambulance. That thing is pretty sick, if a little gutless. I think he said he has a hard time finding parts, though.
