Well out of all the streo systems I've built or helpled build, I end up making the worst one for myself. lol
Sooooo, I've got 2 Pioneer 8 inch subs that were given to me for helping a guy move. And a 2ch 200 watt Visonik amp; cheapest I could find. So in all I've got about $55 into this system cuz I had the wires from other projects and the wood was just layin around. (particle board, I wont make that mistake again)

The subs are about 3 inches deep and the boxes are as shollow as I could possibly get them. You can fit low powerd 10s or high powered shallow 10s without having to scoot the seats forward. That was my main goal as the seat in its furthest position is still to far forward for me. They sound pretty good for low powerd 8s, and you can definetly feel them in the booty cuz the seats are rammed into the boxes.
So you CAN fit subs in a 1st gen!

I have 2, one in the tundra powering one Sony Xplod and had that one for over a year both are fine. When I first did the Tundra it would turn off after like 15 mins of listening then resart and work fine again for another 15 mins. I took it back and got another. Other than that they are the best dirt cheap amp ive bought.
They sound fine, probly better if they were not POS speakers. No deadning material just took the panel off and used an angle grinder to make an oval. Only problem is they are where the cab vents are sposed to be so the vents on the outside just to the rear of the door handle are like a speaker for the outside and everyone on the outside call tell what im listening to. Not like it would make much difference if they werent in the vents. No problems shutting the doors either.

Go with the Pioneer shallow 10s and get creative. The grill on my 8s makes it a 10 pretty much.
And don't buy a Visonik amp. Every time I slow down it sounds like someone running their fingers over the RCAs, like static. Just for a sec then stops. I have another Visonik amp in another truck and it does the same thing, its better when the amp is horizontal.

RCA static happens when you have y RCA cables or they are run next to or close to power cables. Cables are one thing you can't really skimp on.

That noise is not the amp itself, it is actually the RCA cables. The amp just does it's job and amplifies the noise(go figure lol).

cheap cables will do that.
easiest way is to stop being lazy and run the RCA on opposite sides of the car as the power cable, then your static should go away. a lot of people get alternator whine from the same thing.

yea most the time it's time consuming to run wires and cables. Ideally, the RCAs should be run down the middle the vehicle. I just run mine opposite the power wire. Man I'm glad I have a single cab truck.
BTW, I do like your install

Why are you glad you have a single cab???
I ran the RCA opposite the power when I did the camry but I just got lazy on this one. The boxes are built with crappy wood so I couldnt make correct angles and had to fill the gaps with silicone. And my power cable is actually home wiring, like in your walls. lol, it was free and I litterally could not afford to buy the correct stuff. maybe I will change it later. This is the worst install I have ever done, I always try to do a really nice job on my freinds stuff and I usually succeed. If someone wants me to install their stuff I hope the dont get an up close look at this lol.

I'm glad I have a single cab because I rewired my whole truck, it was just time consuming, kinda. Although it was much, much easier than the A4 I did at school.
I was trying to be nice about the install. The idea behind the install is good, but it needs works, you said it yourself. I'm not saying that my truck is better. My install needs redone, mainly my dash needs some fixxin.

You didnt come across as critical to me. I know I did a crappy job cuz I was cheap and did it in like 4 hours. My fault, I know I'm capable of doing better.

If you love doing installs and stuff then maybe think about going to school for it. You think you know a lot(I did) then you go to a school and holy crap, you learn A LOT more. Even though I don't have a job in the field, I do not regret going to school for it
