My 4wd isn't engaging and I don't hear the relay click when I pull the lever into 4hi. I have a '96 manual transmission. No push button 4wd. The relay is somewhere on the passenger side right? Do I get to it from underneath the glove box? Do I have to remove the glove box?

Also, while we're on the subject, could it be a bad 4WD switch on the transfer case lever that's causing this? If so, do I get to that switch from underneath or do I go through the top via the center console?

 

If its the tcase switch your probably gonna have to tackle the problem from the top and bottom.

Taking the center console and shifter plate takes like 5 minutes to do... and isn't hard.

 

I had to go through the top to get to the o2 sensor harness so I'm familiar with it. I was almost hoping to hear you go through the top so I wouldn't have to crawl under the 4runner.

Nobody knows about the relay location? Guess I'll just have fish around down there and hope I don't yank the wrong thing.

 

You might look behind the passenger side kick-panel fwd of the door... at least that is where the relay is located in my 98 Tacoma...

Kind of a bear to remove that panel..... Remove the plastic sill cover then pull the kick panel towards the back of the truck..
