i'm ordering a speedo online. the dealer wants to know if mine is a cable or electric. anyone know off hand

from some junkyard dealer on this forums. i think its girlzlikemud2 or something. someone refd me to them.

early 92's had cable. late did not. Crawl under your truck and look. The speedo cable or speed sensor wire will connect to the transfer case I think on the drivers side.

since you're replacing it anyways, pull it apart and check. you'll learn how it comes out, and what the drive is. make a note and put it in glove box for future reference.
also, make a note of the old and new odometer readings. helps you later if you sell the vehicle.

Do not be so sure on that. I have pulled cable instrument clusters from 92's before. I sold one of them to member here. The best way is to look and see if you have a cable coming out of the transfer case your not.

i figured it out with ease. i just called toyota, gave them the last 8 of my vin. boom done! electronic sensor.
