First off Great site here!!! I have been browsing the forum and getting a lot of information for my Dad's 1990 Pickup. I finally came a cross a question my forum searching abilities could not answer. He would like to put the spare tire back under the bed. The truck came with the spare tire thrown in the back of the bed. I finally got him to take a few pictures of the spare tire mounting location to see what parts he was missing. From the pictures the previous owner mounted some other kind of mount. I have a list of items to replace and fix on the truck for the holidays, while I am home. This is on the top of the list along with getting the half broken key out of the ignition cylinder.

What parts are missing?

Is there a upgraded mount off a new Tacoma I could look for?

 

looks like the chain/cable ass'y has been removed and a center post with two studs to fit the bolt pattern has replaced it. could be due to rust/seizing the original mechanism.

what you have will work, but like the original set-up you will have to make sure it is maintained regularly. as in oil/grease/wax it.

maybe that's one big-assed spare tire in the bed....

 

i would remove all that and go search a junk yard for a good working unit. its going to be a major pain in the ars to lift and hold a spare tire that high while trying to thread on some lug nuts. and to remove it wont be any fun either.

 

dose anyone have a picture of the spare tire mount attached to the bed? And possibly a picture of the tire being lowered.
