No premium gas in Phoenix, what do I do?

I doubt anyone outside of Phoenix has heard of this, but we are nearly out of gas it seems.

I went to 10 stations today and noone had anything over 87 octane. Those that did had an hour long wait and were limiting everyone to $10 in gas. (at $2.00+ a gallon!)

So now I have a half tank of 87 octane, and she is pinging like a cymbol. What can I do, other than lay off the boost? Even without using any boost I am still pinging from a dead stop and on the freeway....

I tried two cans of octane booster, and that didn't help at all. The local 76 Station that usually sells 100 octane is out of gas....

Aaaargh. This sucks!

Its quite a long drive, but the gas station out in Maricopa near the Harrah's casino has all grades of gas, and they also are charging normal rates. Keep it quiet though, no lines yet out there

What about putting in a few gallons of airplane fuel, 105+ octane, and then topping it off with regular unleaded? I read today the pipeline should be recertified and operational by Friday.

Someone who knows engines may want to chime in here, but I'd think using 100LL (aviation fuel -- 100 octane low lead) might be a bad idea. The lead content might mess things up ...

Or maybe someone around you sells racing fuel. I'm surprised two bottles of octane boost did nothing on a 1/2 tank of gas.

I sure hope that stupid pipeline gets fixed soon too because I heard on the news here last night that part of the reason for the jump in price in CA is that CA has been diverting fuel to AZ to help out.

Is there an easy way to temporarily retard timing?

Any avgas would be death to your catalytic converter.

You are correct, AVGAS is a bad idea. I already spoke with the guys at the flight school that I fly out of.

Driving to Harrah's isn't a terrible idea. I might do that, but if I do I am going to take 4-5 of those 5 gallon jug's we use for jet ski's and dirt bikes. I'm not driving an hour for one tank of premium. (not to mention it would take at least a quarter tank to get there and back.

I've heard the same about cali gas rates, but I doubt we are draining your supplies, I think that they are just using the phoenix thing as an excuse. People are crazy here, filling up when they have 3/4 of a tank left. Everyone thinks they are gonna die if their tank goes below 1/2. Crazy people.

I agree fully. Its just some other reason, along with the upcoming holiday, to jack up prices.

I thought it was Bush's fault?

That came to mind because just this morning our statewide newspaper, in a front page article, is suggesting Bush is responsible for a forest fire nearby.

Yeah, the gas problems here suck. I filled my tank a little over a week ago and still have a little less than half left. I cannot believe how crazy people get when they think that they will be without fuel. I have been using the 4Runner for necessary trips (work) and riding my motorcycle on the weekends.

As far as 100LL AVgas... I have watched several idiots fill their tanks with the stuff... even after I mentioned what it can do to their engines.

Btw, where are you flying out of Dan? I am a pilot and currently fly out of Stellar Airpark (my parents have a house/toybox there).

I think you misunderstood the article. It was a burning bush that started the fire, and that was God's fault. Some guy named Moses was implicated, too. The FBI's out looking for him now. He was last seen carrying around a couple of stone tablets ...

Email Gadget. There is a way to bypass the boost.. I want to say you can do it by disconnecting the IAC... Your truck won't produce any boost but it will keep you from destroying your motor...

Call the race track and see if you can get a gallon of cam 3 racing gas.

The cam 3 is 101 Octane Fuel.1 gallon with the cheap gas should put around 91 to 93 octane.

Dan, that seems odd that the octane boost didnt work for you.

I guess they mean it when they say "gain up to 3 points on your octane rating." That really isnt much when you are SC'd.

What a crock...I just bought a bottle of that stuff too.

I think we should blame Governor Neapolitan Ice Cream. All she has to do is approve the non-summer blend fuel, and we are good to go. Oh, that and the freaks that are topping off their tanks.
