does toyota make keys or order??

i have a JDM SURF...
i went to the local key copier . My other 2 4runners have gotten keys there..
my jdm is a little different groves go back 1/16th if an inch and its a little thinner it looks..
so all the keys they cut dont work.. if tried dremmeling it but still cant get it.. i was gonna go to toyota and get one.. but if they need the VIN they wont be able to find my key cuz its a different type of number being from japan..

the key looks the same as any other toyota key but is a little different.. the number on the only key i got sez M345 BLANK MOTOR with a cross in a circle on the other side...

dont think pics will pick up the detail.

Just call your local dealer and ask. If the dealer can't get you or cut you a new key, (and I don't see why they can't,just tell them it's a JDM Surf, imported), I don't think a locksmith will be able to make you a dup. key

just get a new ignition switch from a 4runner and put it in, it should fit. other wise, order from Toyota dealer OR ask someone in Japan to order for you from a dealer.

Maybe this is a good excuse to Mod up a custom ignition switch. Maybe a push button type with a hidden magnetic reed switch or keypad. After that you'll have a secure ignition and won't have to carry keys. I've been wanting to do that just for the fun of it. You could even use an alarm remote off a aux channel to do that. They have code hopping so it's plenty secure.

Or yeah, call around to dealers to have a key cut. A good locksmith can do it but I think you'll pay a heck of a lot more than the dealer route.

call the dealers and ask. if they don't have the blank, the can probably order it, then just cut the keys from the new blank. otherwise, change out the ignition and other lock cylinders for domestic units. if you get them from toyota, they can probably update the database with the new key information so in the future they can cut new ones for you.
