I was driving my 99' SR5 with 165,000 miles on it the other day and hit a major pothole (so unusuall for chicago...HA yea right) and the truck went BAM and bent and cracked my original OEM front sway link on the passinger side. While I was driving I looked back and actually saw the top part of the sway link fly out from under my truck and roll across the street. Also I tore the inner tierod dust boot on the passinger side of my truck.

Due to the Heavenly Chicago winters (heavy snow and road salt), the original sways were rusted beyond all belief and took me almost 2 freakin hours to remove both eventually cracked the head off of the other side with an impact driver. I note that the OEM sway's where smaller in diameter and weaker looking than the Moog "problem solver" aftermarket ones. Also, I've heard nothing but good things about MOOG aftermarket parts and with a limited lifetime warreny from advanced auto AND made in Japan...i'm Impressed. So I decided to do a comparison and I was pretty impressed with what i saw. The Moog's part is beefy and well powercoated in black, includes full sway kit w/ everything (washers, nuts and bushings) and seems to be twice as heavy as the OEM and almost 50% larger shaft diameter

OEM COST$70.00 Each (after 20% off internet discount) Not the entire kit no bushings nuts washers ect

MOOG Cost: $31.95 Each for full sway kit (With all bushings washers and nuts) each at advanced auto w/ limited lifetime warrenty included)

Has anyone else had a good experiance with MOOG aftermartket parts for our runners?

I bought a set on eBay for $40. Replaced both sides so I shouldn't have to worry about them for a while.

 

Hey you bought "Moog Sways" on ebay...? Or another brand?

 

I actually bought aftermarket OEM style links on ebay. They seem to be a high quality part and I dont think I will have to worry about them for a long time.

I also have anti-sway bushing kit from Wheelers Offroad. I installed the entire kit at the same time as the end links.

In my opinion there is nothing wrong with building your own or buying quick disconnects. The adjustable quick disonnects are cool because you can level your truck from left to right. The original links were built too small and I believe Toyota upgraded them on later models.

Moog parts are very good, I would never worry about the quality of them. They are OE for many car manufacturers and I believe they built many of the suspension part for American built toyotas.

 

Moog is a very dependable strong brand. They have been around forever.
