Any hands-on experience with advancing valve timing on the EB 268 cam?

I have the street-RV EB head & 268 cam, 9.5-1 compression, LC header, 2-1/4 exhaust.

My powerband is much broader than before, but it seems to peak a little higher in the RPM band, roughly around 4,000 RPM.

My question is: Who has any real experience with 2-4 degrees of advanced valve timing with a similar setup? It`s a little late to call EB, but I will tomorrow afternoon to see what he says.

BTW- I have searched & I did read the 4x4wire thread by EB, but I am curious if anyone has real experience doing this.

 

I bought an LC Engineering adjustable cam gear when I rebuilt my 22RE. I also used a stock head, cleaned it up, 3-angle valve job, cleaned up and ground the valves, shaved the head 20 thousands and used EB's 268. I degree'd the cam and it called for 2 degrees of advance (makes sense since I shaved it 20). I dialed in 3 more degrees of advancement making it a total of 5 degrees. It seems to work so far. I didn't have much seat time behind a stock 22RE.

Mine seems like it runs out of steam @ 4K.

 

FAR OUT VOLCOM! This is the kind of info I wanted, I think 2 degrees of total advancement is what I need ( new head casting).

This may sound really stupid, but does your chance of pinging go up or down when advancing the valve timing?

I know were not talking ignition timing, forgive my ignorance on this, it may not even make a difference...

 

in general, advancing the cam will move the powerband lower... it shouldn't cause detonation, but could, and that does mean you will have to retard your timing.
