1st gen 4runner roof leak ?

Ever since I got my 'runner (before the roof rack install) it's leaked water during heavy downpours. What happens is, it sounds like the water is inside the fiberglass shell, and when I step on the brakes for the first time after a downpour all the water surges forward and comes down from between the cab and the shell (sometimes if I make a hard left and tap the brakes I can get it to dump on the passenger front seat ). If I don't drive it for awhile it will just leak onto the rear floor and front of the back seats.

I'm kinda concerned about it now that I'm back in PA because it's not going to be hot enough to evaporate it out for awhile (mold, mildew, rust). I've had the shell off and the seals all look good (no cracks or rot) and that's about as far as I've ever gotten. I've only ever had the shell off once or twice, but I don't want to run a bead of caulk around the thing. Does anyone have any tricks for the 1st gen fiberglass tops or ran into this? Are there any drain holes I should be looking for?

I think you answered it yourself. Likely there is a crack in your shell.
I would try taking it off and look for the cracks either repair it or find a new shell.
It's probably something you overlooked and didn't notice.
Make sure all the mounting surfaces are clean and all the bolts are installed in your shell.

Had very similar problem also, my seals looked good but I replaced them anyways. Since then I have not had any leaks, just a thought, easier(cheaper) to replace seals first than the whole shell.

thanks for the replies. I pulled off the shell and didn't see anything out of the normal. pulled out both rear side windows and resealed them. also pulled off teh roof rack and resealed that (could have been done better on my initial install) -- after all that it hasn't rained a drop for me to even see if it worked . . . .
