Is a 90 4runner interchangeable with a 96?

Yeah I know. Some are probably thinking that was a pretty Bobo question. I apologize in advance for my lack of full on Yota knowledge. I just know what I got and what I need.
I kind of need to know rather quickly.

I got a phone call from a very good friend today w/ a great offer. He has a 96 4runner,that has a bad engine knock and he's not willing to sink money into it.
He offered me for $200 bucks I can rape it for as much as I can get off it.
For $400 I can take the whole thing and do whatever I want with it.
I'm going to look at it tomorrow (Wednesday) around noon and Im gonna take my camera along and snap an arsenal of pics.

Thing is he said he wants to get rid of it asap.
I got definite first dibs on it. I was the 1st and only one he called.
I just need to know if anything is interchangeable or just "some" things. Be it body,interior or drive train.

Any help?

I was considering snagging the whole thing for the $400 and parting it out myself on this site,in the Marketplace section.
I just don't have the time to rip things off it and help others out right now.
I really wish I could.
I'm a fulltime musician and always on the move. Not home a whole lot right now.
Either way. I am gonna talk to him about coming to this site and registering a profile and for him to post it.
Or I might even do the "middle man" thing for him as far as taking pics and posting info on here.

if the 96 is nice and has the 3.4L id swap out the motor for a good one and drive it

 

Yeah. I won't know till I see it. He did tell em the tailgate is rotted. One thing I was looking for.

for the most part... 96>-<90 are not interchangeable. you may find some panels and such will work between the two.
but if you've got the room, 400 for the 96, and part it out will make you more money.

 

400 for a 3.4 can't go wrong and you can make that back selling the good parts and have a nice swapped 2nd gen. That's what I would do in that position

 

Yeah,I got the room. I know it's a deal and I can make some extra scratch off it,BUT....I'm not home nearly long enough to work on my rig when I need too. let alone another one.

i say go for it post stuff up online and part it out or keeps it and flip it for 1000 with bad motor youll get it for a 96

As I have stated. I do not have the time to part it out. At all.
I talked to the guy today and told him I have no use for it,but he should come here and post it.
Im still workin on him. If I find out he's gonna scrap it. I'll offer him something for it.
I will then post it in the Marketplce on this site.
I will then sell the whole rig as is for whatever I research it's value to be,per condition overall.

I have yet to get pics and I hope to do so by tomorrow night.
