Question Potentially My New Rig...Anyone With Input??

I'm thinking about buying a 1985 4Runner with an XO cage, 9,000 LB Ramsey winch, new clutch, 30,000 miles on the engine, 3" lift, studded snow tires, and that's all for the good.

The bad: There's a tick in the engine that, at worst could be the timing belt if I'm not mistaken, which I hope I am. It's also missing its front blinkers because of the XO cage and I'm worried about a rust issue. The tires its on now are about 30% at best. Finally, it's going to set me back $4,250.

So what do you all think? Good buy? Lemon with a pretty red shell and black roll cage?

your links are directing us to the Gmail sign in page. looks like only you, or those with your password, can view the pics. might be easier to just post them directly on here

Either way, pics or not. I would suggest finding something in the $500-$1000 range that runs and go from there. For the money you're looking to spend on this truck I would expect it to run perfectly, have no rust, great tires, a small lift, maybe. If I had that much to put into my $500 84 pickup it would be fully built exactly how I want it, suspension, gearing, armor, etc. Better deals can be found, just start knocking on people's doors where you notice their Toyotas don't ever move.

Ok...yeah, possibly, problem is I don't smoke hash and listen to Bob Marley after skipping class to go sit in a drum circle all day and give new age poetry readings at night...jk.

Got the photos working.

UPDATE: The rig doesn't have any rust on the inside, and very little on the outside. Engine noise has been fixed, runs great. Now that the pictures are up, albeit they aren't the best, anyone have any input?

From the looks of it and your new description I think it would be a good deal. No frame rust?

Yeah, I went down there for an event and you must have had one of the few attractive girls on that campus, I swear the rest all are cheerleaders.

No frame rust, it's never been wheeled. The owner used it as a grocery getter and an advertisement for her husband's shop, hence the sticker on the flanks.

Expensive, you say motor has tick, missing corner markers, tire at 30%, I can't expand pics does it have High steer? Gears? lockers? I'm not crazy about that exo either, lacks sliders. I'd get some one with more exo design knowledge to look at it, if not designed and built right it'll fail, but if you just want it for show and have the cash burning a hole get it.

Talk them down if your set on that thingbut I agree look around before shelling out that kind of clam for that truck.
If you look at my new score for 2800 bucks(Santa stoped by today post) you will see that there are better deals out there if you look for them I had to pay for shipping but still came in way below what there asking for that truck.

my only question. WHO builds an exo cage if it hasn't been or never be wheeled?

plus it looks as if it might interfer with removing the top.

it seems pretty pricey for a runner thats pretty much stock except for an exo not too mention a bad motor. you can find a better deal on a built truck that runs good with out an exo for around 5000. and you would have to be doing some pretty hardcore wheeling to make that exo cage worth while, cuz otherwise its just a waste of weight if your not wheeling it hard enough to make it worth while.

Thanks for the advice everyone.

Top is still removable.

I've looked around for he right 4Runner, and I have the skill to do a lot of modification myself, but I haven't the time or the tools to do so, college student, you know...so I was looking for something that wasn't too beat up, but had all of the necessary components to go out and do some actual wheeling.

So I'm not terribly set, but I do like it thus far. Thanks again for all the advice and I'll see you all around here, I'm sure if I don't get this particular rig then I'll puck up a different one!

Check out http://nw-wheelers.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=21 its regional to you. That truck ain't what your looking for to wheel. And for the cost to upgrade it with the cost of vehicle, well you could do a lot better.
