Big THANKS to ABECEDARIAN!!!
you are amazing! No seriously. You have stuck with me through the whole time while screwing with my truck. I haven't met such a great person such as you. I'm definitely glad I joined this site and met you! You have been such a great help!
To catch some of you up. I first started a thread about why my truck was idling like crap. It would surge like crazy. I got many suggestions. I tried many things. Adjusted crap. Bought a new AAV (auxiliary air valve). My engine had 180 psi on all cylinders except #3 which sadly had 40 psi. I took it apart in mid june...and found out broken rings were my problem. It also badly screwed up my cylinder wall. Anyway...the past couple of weeks I have been rebuilding it. Without abecedarian I don't think I could have done it.
Now...I got my truck started and it runs great...besides having an intake leak which leaked coolant into the cylinders and high idle it is running very well and I have a happy 100 miles on her so far...and I'm looking forward for a long time with her
I'm 17 years old and I did this all by myself. I had help from my brother to put the engine to the transmission but nothing else. I am proud of myself. I used to be made in fun of because I would occasionally break stuff. And my challenges were always really hard (finding electrical shorts).
Time for some pics!
Back from the machine shop .030 over

Primer then red paint

Pistons, rods, and crank

Everything else...

Dropping it into the truck...

Almost ready to go...

SMOKE!!!

THANKS ABECEDARIAN
AND THOOK...but you kinda dropped out at the end...lol

That plastic timimg chain guide makes me sad... If it's aftermarket you'll probably be doing a timng chain kit in 10k or so but look at the bright side, you'll know how to do it yourself.
Great job on the rebuild though. Sorry THOOK bailed on you.

Thats an engnbldr timing set. The left side is plastic and the right is metal. My brother has 260k miles and his are plastic guides...it should last longer than 10k miles...lol

I am doing this as we speak. My new block is at the machine shop getting bored out. And my new head is getting cleaned up and valves put in. How hard was it to pull the engine and components. Do you have a write up on this? Or is there one. And yes i searched and got nothing.

Actually I didn't. Just looks like that. lol. If you want some more pics I would be glad to send them to you
Haha...yeah he is. Its alright...he sometimes gives me crap to. Just gotta make in fun of his old age
lol...no problem. It went great...and I'm going to do it all again in 3-4 months (with a different engine) for my senior project. lol. Just need a locker and 31's
I love yotatech too! Haha...yeah you'll definitely need some tools.
Pulling the head and components was "easy". Mostly because I only have an alternator. No power steering or ac or anything like that. No options whatsoever...not even a cigarette lighter...lol.
I really don't have a write up...I didn't even think of it. I will help if you need any. Here is the thread where I got most to all of my help from...sorry but its long. You can basically skip to the last 10 pages and see what I did.
Good luck! https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...lprits-142472/
Update: Fixed idle by adjusting AAV (auxiliary air valve) and idle perfect now! Other than it kinda sounds like a diesel...lol. (My egr tube is bent and leaking exhaust
)
Some pics!
