Cheap/free leveling/lift kit for your 2nd gen runner

Hey guys, I'm a tech at a dealer here in western WA and thought I'd pass this along. We've been installing alot of OME lift kits on the FJ Cruisers and have alot of stock parts left over. With that said myself and my buddy got to thinking, why not try swapping the rear shocks and springs from a FJ over to our 2nd gen runners. The result? About a 2" lift over our sagged out rear suspension. The only modification we had to make was to cut about 3 1/2" inches off the very bottom of the coils so they seat in the perches properly. And we took aluminum dowels and made spacers for our brake lines. Not too bad for free and a little time. Pretty much a bolt on and I'm sure you guys could pick up stock springs and shocks for an FJ for next to nothing. The ride is very nice with this setup.

do you know what other vehicles these coils will fit? Way to find your own way to fix that annoying butt sag!

I was completely you, upon seeing a post count of 9, to ask how to lift your truck free, while at the same time gaining more horsepower so that you could 37" Thornbirds just like your buddy Jed did.

But no. Thanks for the tip, thats good to know. Springs usually come with the last coil on either end flattened. Obviously, these FJ coils don't as you've removed a bit. Do they still seat properly?
